Meet the Guy Who bought Google.com for $12
Meet the Guy Who bought Google.com for $12 – Sanmay Ved became popular when he happen to buy the Google.com domain name. Sanmay Ved later on revealed all the details in a Linked In post. It is bit of an old story but fascinating to know if you have not come across it earlier.
Google.com domain name is actually registered by Google and the registering company is also Google. If you are unaware how domain names buy sell process work, I will give a brief. You can buy any domain name for a specific period of time and own it say for 10 years. At the end of the period you have to pay again to the registrar if you wish to continue the domain name.
The domain name gets locked in your name and no one else can buy it. For example we have candytech bought for next 5 years and we can add more number of years when ever we want to and in case we don’t do that at the end of 5 years the domain name will return to the public market place to be purchased by anyone.
Weirdly the Google.com became available on September 29, 2015 at 1:20 am, the Google.com became available. Sanmay Ved happen to be at the right place at the right time and spotted the opportunity and purchased the Google.com.
The order went through thought the Google security team later cancelled the order as in this case Google was the registration company if Google would not have been the registration company situation would have been more interesting.
It has happened before when the Hotmail UK domain accidently got listed in public domain and someone bought it from the market place.
The more interesting part is Google offered Sanmay Ved a reward for $6006.13 now it is really interesting and witty of Google to provide that value as it resembles GOOGLE ( 6006.13). Sanmay Ved Plans to donate the amount he got from Google to Art of Living India foundation.
Quite fascinating you may too get lucky keep looking for domain names and may bag Facebook.com or Flipkart.com.
