The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite is the world’s first smartphone to feature 6 GB RAM. The smartphone got unveiled in China yesterday and comes with some nifty hardware specs. Vivo also unveiled the Vivo XPlay 5 which comes with 4 GB RAM.
- The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite is priced at CNY 4288 (or Rs. 44000 or $656)
- The Vivo XPlay 5 is priced at CNY 3698 ( or Rs. 38500 or $575)
Vivo previously holds a world record for the thinnest smartphone in the world the Vivo X5 max which has a thickness of 4.75 mm. (thinner than Oppo R5 with 4.85 mm thickness).
Vivo XPlay 5 Elite brings a fresh wave of specs war among the Flagship devices and yet again the Chinese company proves they are the best when it comes to raising the bar. The recent Flagship smartphones from Samsung S7 and LG – the G5 comes with 4 GB of RAM and same processor.
The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite is powered by the latest flagship monstrous processor from Qualcomm the 64 Bit Snapdragon 820 – Quad Core processor clocked at 2.15 Ghz with Kryo Cores. The Snapdragon 820 is accompanied by the Adreno 530 GPU which offers 40% improvement in GPU performance Vs the Adreno 430 uses in the Snapdragon 810.
The Smartphone has a Dual Edge Display like the Samsung S6 Edge and comes with a 5.43 inch screen size. The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite has a 2K (2560*1440) P resolution which comes with an incredible pixel density of 541. The screen is coated with the latest Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 to improve resistance to scratches.
The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite has somewhat familiar design when we compare to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. It also comes with the edge display quick launch icons. The smartphone has got a metal unibody design with superior finish.
The rear side of the smartphone has speaker grill and a micro-USB port, the Vivo XPlay 5 Elite does not come with the USB Type C charging port.
The Camera is mounted above the Antenna lines somewhat like the iPhone 6s and does not look to come with the camera bump. The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite rear camera is a 16 MP shooter with (Sony MX298 sensor). It offers features like PDAF (phase detection Auto-focus) faster focus speeds, 6P lens and F/2.0 aperture size. The front facing camera comes with 8 MP lens without a dedicated flash.
The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite comes with 128 GB of inbuilt storage though there is no additional memory card support on the smartphone. The device has 4G LTE support along with Bluetooth V4.2 and WIFI.
The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite has a thickness of 7.59 mm and weighs 167 grams. The reason for higher weight is the large non-removable 3600 mAH capacity battery which is sufficient to power this beast for full day of usage.
Vivo XPlay 5 Elite runs on the latest OS from Google Android Marshmallow 6.0 along with the Fun touch OS 2.6. It also comes with the HIFI sound which provides immersive music experience. The smartphone will go on sale in China on march 8 and later on will get released in other markets, no fixed date is yet provided for the India launch.
It is great to have a 6 GB RAM smartphone at least it pushes the boundaries for the current generation of devices. You definitely don’t need 6 GB of ram while doing anything on a smartphone , including high end games. Most of the smartphones these days are coming with 3-4 GB RAM and which is more than sufficient at least for 2 years.
Even 2 GB RAM is sufficient for a high end device, and definitely 6 GB is an overkill. Nevertheless Full marks to Vivo for raising the bar.
