6GB RAM Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 Review – (Camera, Gaming, Features) Deal Alert

6GB RAM Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 Review

Discount Update- The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is available for a discounted price of Rs. 12,999 from the earlier price of Rs. 14,999 during the Flipkart Big Billion day sales. Also, there is additional discount of 10% if you buy the mobile using the HDFC bank debit or credit card. It is a killer deal for the price and is one of the most affordable 6 GB ram mobiles that you can purchase in this price range.

Asus has launched the new Zenfone Max Pro M1 in India on 26th July 2018, and it is available for purchase from Flipkart. The mobile comes with 6 GB of LPDDR4 ram and improved cameras both for the rear and front.

Asus already have two variants of the Zenfone Max Pro M1 in the market that costs Rs. 10,999 for the 3 GB / 32 storage version and Rs. 12,990 for the 4 GB Ram

The new version is available for Rs. 14,999 and competes with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Oppo RealMe 1, Huawei Honor 9N and several other good mid-range phones.

I have been testing the black color version of this new phone now for last two days, and it is looking much better in comparison to the old phone regarding camera quality.

Unboxing, Gaming, Benchmarks and User Experience

Unboxing And What’s Inside the Box

The phone comes with a standard rectangular package with blue and light grey color. The box has a mention of made in China, and the MRP on it is Rs. 17,999 but you can buy it for Rs. 14,999 on Flipkart.

Inside the box, we get the phone, Sim-Ejection tool, micro-USB cable and a charger (5 Volts and 2 Ampere). There is also usual documentation that we can safely keep in the box for a later reading (pun intended…).

The phone is not very bulky, despite housing a massive 5000 mAH capacity battery. It is one of the most elegant looking phones that even manage to have superb battery life.

At the rear are Dual cameras which are not protruding outwards and there is a LED flash present below them. The back cover is metallic and is a fingerprint magnet.

Overall the weight distribution is good, and the phone feels great in hand. The phone measures 8.6 mm in thickness and has 180 grams weight.

The mobile comes with a large 6.0 Inch Display that has 450 nits of brightness, and the panel is IPS LCD. Unfortunately, there is no Corning Gorilla Glass Protection So you will have to use it with tempered glass to avoid micro scratches.

Further, the display comes with the modern 18:9 aspect ratio and offers decent viewing angles and contrast. The phone screen has around 84% screen to body ratio and comes with 85% NTSC color gamut and 1500:1 contrast ratio.

Overall the display is pleasing and ideal for gaming and reading text.

User Experience

The phone boots on the latest Android Oreo 8.1 from Google and delivers blazing fast performance. Also, there is improved ZEN UI which looks more refined than the previous iterations.

Also, the phone comes with the May security patch from Google, and we can expect an update from the brand pretty soon. There are features such as Zen Motion which allows you to use gestures such as double tap to wake up and draw an alphabet on display to quick launch an App.

Also, there is night light mode for reading at night to reduce the harmful blue light.  The phone doesn’t come with bloatware, and most of the Apps are from Google.

Fingerprint Scanner and Face unlocking

It boasts of a quick fingerprint scanner at the back which is much faster in comparison to the Fingerprint reader on the older Zenfone Max Pro M1.

The face unlock feature is a bit slow in comparison to other phones like the Oppo RealME 1 and doesn’t work properly in the dark.

The phone offers superb performance as it has the 14 Nm Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 GPU which comes with 1.8 GHz clock Speed. Add to it 6 GB Ram and Adreno 509 GPU, and you have a blazing fast device.

The phone flies through tasks and games we have thrown at it, and it is the same processor used in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro too.

So far, I have only played the Tekken game on the device, and if you wish me to test more games, please share the game names in the comments below.

The Game Play is pretty smooth in Tekken.

Update – 30 July 2018

We Played Several Games Such as PUBG, Asphalt 9, Tekken, Life is Strange, and Asphalt 8 on the new Zenfone Max Pro M1 and overall the gaming experience is impressive. You can watch the video gaming video review for the phone below:

Benchmark Scores

Antutu Benchmark Score – 114,340

Geek Benchmark Score

Single Core Score – 1333

Multi-Core Score- 4844

You can check the Benchmark Scores for the older 3 GB Ram version here in this article. The scores are nearly the same for the 3 GB /4GB or the 6 GB ram version.

However, the 6 GB ram version feels a lot snappier than the other two variants when you have a lot of Apps open in the background.

The biggest highlight of the new Zenfone Max Pro M1 (6GB) is the improved camera setup for the back and the front. Also, the phone comes with an improved selfie camera which is far better to use in any lighting conditions.

The Zenfone Max Pro M1 (6GB) has a 16 MP + 5 MP camera which offers f/2.0 aperture instead of the f/2.2 aperture on the older model. The additional f-stop allows more light into the camera and a higher MP also ensures more clarity.

More importantly, the company has tuned the camera better this time and it is taking good images.

Here are some of the camera Samples you may like to check.

Also, there are features such as 4K video recording, depth mode to click images with background blur.

Battery Life

The phone has a massive battery capacity (5000 mAH), and it offers class leading performance when it comes to the battery backup. You can easily use the device for 1.5 days and charging time is close to 2.5 hours.

Sound and Call Quality

The sound from the bottom firing speaker is loud and clear and you can easily listen to music or watch videos without the need for any headphones.

You can check the speaker quality in the video review I have added to this article.

Initial Thoughts

Overall the new Zenfone Max Pro M1(6GB) looks like a killer deal for the price. It overcomes the shortcomings for the older version with improved camera quality for both the front as well as the rear.

I am still doing more testing for the camera, Gaming, Heating, Face unlock and several other things and will report in 3-4 days more about it here and on our Youtube Channel. So stay tuned for more updates in the coming days.
