Acer has launched the new smartphone the Acer Liquid Z530 in the Indian market couple of days back. The smartphone has now gone on sale on Flipkart and is priced at Rs. 6,999.
The Acer Z530 has got good user reviews, and we also had an opportunity to test one of the units briefly. The smartphone competes with the Xiaomi’s Redmi 2 prime the top-selling smartphone under Rs. 7,000.

Acer Liquid Z530 Vs. Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime – Better Choice
Design – The Acer Liquid Z530 offers a neat design with a more curved frame compared to a more rectangular design of the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime. The Acer Z530 has a 5.0-inch screen with HD resolution (1280*720) pixels display.
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime has a slightly smaller screen size with 4.7 inches with a similar display resolution of 1280*720. The pixel density on the Acer Z530 is 293 PPI while on the Xiaomi Redmi Prime 2 is 312 PPI.
The Acer Liquid Z530 weighs 145 grams while the Prime weighs 133 grams (significantly lighter and easy to carry). Both the smartphones are made of plastic and look decent.
The Acer Z530 has a thickness of 8.9 mm while the Xiaomi Redmi 2 comes with a higher thickness of 9.4 mm. Not too much difference but the Acer Z530 feels slimmer with a 5.0-inch screen.
Performance – The Acer Liquid Z530 comes with the MediaTek Quad Core processor (MTK 6735) and is clocked at 1.3 GHz. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 offers slightly better performance compared to the MTK 6735 but hardly noticeable. Both the smartphones come with 2 GB of RAM which is more than enough for multitasking and playing modern Android games.
We observed slight lag on both the smartphones when playing graphics-intensive games in some of the missions, though both offer decent performance as far as gaming goes. If you are buying it purely for gaming, the Redmi 2 prime had a slight advantage.
Storage – Both the smartphone has 16 GB of inbuilt storage which is great for the price. It is adequate to store media files, videos, and images. The Redmi 2 Prime and Acer Liquid Z530 offer support for the micro – SD card and storage can be expanded to 32 GB.
Camera – The Acer Z530 comes with an 8 Megapixel rear camera and also has an 8 Megapixel front camera. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 prime comes with an eight-megapixel rear camera and a 2 Megapixel front camera. The rear camera for the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime is comparatively better compared to the Acer Z530 while the front camera is better for the Acer Z530.
Operating System- The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 with the Xiaomi Custom UI MIUI 7.0 which is quite stable and mature OS. The Acer Z530 also runs on the Android Lollipop 5.1 with the user’s custom liquid UI.
Acer UI comes with features like Float caller which helps you do your work uninterruptedly when you get a call in between. There are several skins and themes for the MIUI 7.0 which can offer plenty of customizations.
Connectivity – The Acer Z530 comes with the Dual Sim option and comes with 4G LTE support with 1800 and 2300 band support. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 prime comes with Dual Sim and support for 4G LTE along with the native 3G and 2G option. Nothing here gives an advantage to any of the smartphones.
Battery Life – The Acer Z530 has a 2420 mAH battery capacity which is 10% more than the 2200 mAH battery capacity on the Xiaomi Redmi 2 prime. Both the smartphones offer decent battery life. The Z530 offers a little extra juice compared to the Redmi Prime 2 in practical day to day operation.
Verdict – Acer Liquid Z530 Vs. Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime
Both the smartphones have the same price of Rs. 6,999. While Xiaomi Redmi Prime 2 has advantages of better performance, a more matured UI, lighter weight (130 grams) and a better rear camera compared to the Z530.
The Acer Liquid Z530 offers a slightly larger display, more battery life, good front selfie camera. While Xiaomi has been around for some time and has cracked the formula for a successful product launch, Acer is a relatively new and less known brand in smartphones arena.
