Airtel to Match JIO with New VOLTE Service

Airtel is planning to start the rollout of the 4G Volte network as soon as next week, for some of the major cities in India.

Update – Airtel has launched the 4G Volte services in Mumbai on 11 September 2017 and other cities will be launched soon.

As per, a report by ET, the company is ready to roll out the 4G VOLTE (Voice over LTE)  features for its customers in Cities like Mumbai and Kolkata initially.

And Airtel will, later on, start rolling it out for Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and other metros.

Airtel may complete the 4G Volte network roll out by the end of this financial year (31st March 2017). Also, the company will share the 4G Volte network rollout status with its customers by SMS. Moreover, they can then enable the service in case their mobile supports it.

The key advantage for VOLTE for the customers is a slight improvement in call clarity and connectivity. While Airtel will be able to offer services at par with Reliance JIO as JIO is the only company offering VOLTE.

Majority of the new smartphones sold in the market now comes with the 4G LTE as well VOLTE support and most mobile brands are aware of the future use of VOLTE phones.

Reliance JIO is banking on the success of it’s 4G Volte feature phone. The JIO phone has received more than 6 Million booking and will start the delivery in the 3rd week of September.

Airtel also some days back was reported to be working on a new 4G Volte phone which can cost Rs. 2500. Many Indian companies like Intex, Lava, and Micromax are also eyeing the 4G Volte feature phone market as a growth driver for next year.

Idea 4G VOLTE Roll-Out

Idea Cellular MD Mr. Himanshu Kapania also said that company is testing the 4G Volte network and will also start rolling it out in a phased manner.

According to Counterpoint research, more than 200 million 4G Volte feature phones will sell in India in the next 5 years. And Airtel and JIO are looking to battle for largest share of the pie.
