The news came two days back that AMD has split the parent organization, to create a new company that Raja Koduri (senior Vice president, Chief Architect) will lead to battle Nvidia.

Raja Koduri – The Man of the Hour
Notably, Raja Koduri is of Indian origin. And brings 20 years of experience in the field of visual computing and content creation to GPU architecture.
Before Joining AMD Raja Koduri was working with Apple computers in the graphics division. Raja has done master of Technology in electronic and communication from IIT Kharagpur, India.
The division of the AMD processors and Graphics division is a large step. And AMD is planning to get the enhanced focus in both the divisions to increase the organization value for shareholders.
“With the creation of the Radeon Technologies Group we are putting in place a more agile, vertically-integrated graphics organisation focused on solidifying our position as the graphics industry leader. Recapturing profitable share across traditional graphics markets, and staking leadership positions in new markets such as virtual and augmented reality,” Su said in a statement.
Furthermore, AMD was merged with the ATI technologies in 2006. AMD acquired the entire Graphics card division almost 20 years back that now will become an independent identity.
Moreover, Raja Koduri has been instrumental in the development of key AMD technologies and contributed to the development of recent graphics cards. Some recent developments include AMD R9 Fury X and Fury that uses the advanced HBM ( high bandwidth memory).
Also, Raja Koduri also has been focusing on the next generation of VR technologies that AMD calls the liquid VR.
VR Division is Part of Radeon Technologies
The newly formed company also comprises of the VR Divison. That said, AMD is losing market share to Nvidia for long and the patient needed this medicine to bring the focus back. On the contrary, Nvidia has a market share of about 70% of discrete GPUs that in last some months is raring to touch 80%.
Moreover, the Nvidia GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980 and 980 Ti are the best sellers. AMD is the only other company in the world that makes discrete graphics cards for the PC. Nvidia monopoly is unwarranted.
A lot of internal resources may get shuffled within the new company. Importantly, it can bring a fresh breeze of life to AMD GPU division. Lastly, we can expect some great products down the line from the Radeon Technology Group.
