Mostly these cards are re-branded version of the AMD R9 200 series and if you already have an AMD R9 280, 280X, 290 or 290X you are not going to get much performance boost by purchasing a similar architecture graphics card.

The AMD 390X and Fury X are meant for gamers looking forward to 2K or 4K gaming. Even a single 390X will not be sufficient for 4K gaming so you will need to crossfire them.

The AMD Fury and Fury X is yet not listed on any e-commerce portals. Flipkart is the first to launch the MSI R9 and R7 300 series among major e-portals.  Let’s Check out which cards are already listed, we will update the cost Vs performance analysis. Should you buy the AMD R9 300 series or the already popular Nvidia GTX 970 and GTX 960. Nvidia is also likely working on a GTX 950 and GTX 950 ti to compete with AMD R7 370 and AMD R7 360.

With upcoming Windows 10 and DirectX 12, you will need some of the new GPU’s to fully take advantage of the DX 12 features, however your old cards will also work fine with most DX-12 games.

Currently the Graphics Cards Listed on Flipkart are From only from MSI Brand, we expect Sapphire also to list soon as it is a major AMD graphics card seller in India.

The graphics card is a mid range as far as the price goes. It competes with the Nvidia GTX 960.

The OC Mode boost the core clock to 1070 MHz.

  • Boost Clock / Base Clock / Memory Frequency
  • 1070 MHz / 1020 MHz / 5700 MHz (OC Mode)
  • Boost Clock / Base Clock / Memory Frequency
  • 1030 MHz / 980 MHz / 5600 MHz (Gaming Mode)
  • Boost Clock / Base Clock / Memory Frequency
  • 975 MHz / 925 MHz / 5600 MHz (Silent Mode)

It comes with the 4096 MB GDDR5 (4GB), and has a 256 bit bus width.

MSI AMD R9 380 is Priced at Rs. 26,990

The graphics card competes with the older generation GTX 770 in this price range and is very close to GTX 970 which is priced between 27,000 to 32,000 depending on different brands and models.

The MSI 380 has a Core clock at 970 Mhz at silent mode, 980 Mhz at the gaming mode and 1000 at the OC mode.  The graphics card comes with the MSI Twin Frozr V cooling system (air cooled). The Twin Frozr coolers help the graphics card dissipate heat efficiently and the cards run cooler compared to the stock coolers.

The Graphics card has base GPU Clock at 970 Mhz and memory clock at 6010 Mhz. The graphics card have 256-bit, 4 GB GDDR5 Memory.  It is quite suitable for 1080P gaming and if you already have a 280X or AMD HD 7970 or even a HD 7950 you will not find too much of a performance gain with the 380. If you have a low end AMD card like 270 or 260x, it still makes a case to upgrade for playing games at 1080P.

AMD MSI R9 390 is Priced at Rs. 38,700 (8GB)

The graphics card is currently priced quite high compared to the Nvidia GTX 970 even the Gigabyte G1 gaming which trades close to Rs. 33k. The only positive with the AMD R9 390 priced so high is the 8 Gigabytes of GDDR5 memory which comes into picture if you plan to run your games on 4K monitor.

Even with 4K the 390X or the Nvidia GTX 980 tends to struggle not due to the memory constraint but due to processing power. The entire 8 GB GDDR5 will not come too handy if you are gaming on 1080P or even at 2K resolution.

The AMD 390 has a base clock of 1000 Mhz and a memory clock of 6000 Mhz. The graphics card has 512-bit and has 8 GB GDDR5 Memory.

AMD R9 390X is Priced at Rs. 44, 865

AMD R9 390X MSI 4G

The AMD 390X performance falls somewhere above the GTX 970 and below the GTX 980 in most of the gaming titles. The price is bit higher and again the 8 GB of GDDR5 memory to me don’t make much sense.

If I need to buy a GPU for 4K gaming the obvious choice is going to be GTX 980 Ti or the AMD FuryX with HBM and for 1080 P or 2K gaming 8GB GDDR5 is an overkill.

The AMD R9 390X is clocked slightly higher at 1050 Mhz and has memory clock at 6000 Mhz. The graphics card has 8 GB GDDR5 memory and  512 bit bus width.
