AMD CEO Lisa Su has unveiled the next generation of AMD Graphics Card at E3 2015 the largest gaming extravaganza. The new graphics cards are not only powerful compared to the earlier generation they offer significant energy saving as well. The new graphics card will go on sale from Thursday, 18 June 2015.
All the new graphics card by AMD are 100% Direct X 12 compatible.
AMD has introduced the low-end graphics cards to deliver great performance for the gamers who like to participate in the e-sports titles like the league of legends or DOTA 2. The AMD R7 300 series offers good gaming performance to the professional gamers who are more inclined to play games which are not very demanding and want a low-cost high-performance computing solution.
The AMD R7 – 360 and AMD R7 – 370 are meant for those Gamers.
AMD introduced 3 new technologies along with the release of New Graphics card:
- All cards are 100% DX 12 compatible and the performance gain from the DX 12 is significantly higher compared to the DX 11 based games.
2) FRTC – Frame rate target control – save power cooler and Quieter performance. How FRTC works on an AMD R7 370 or R9 380, it actually controls the number of frames rendered and displayed on the screen. If your monitor is showing max 60 FPS while GPU is rendering 200 FPS, the rest of the frames are going waste and not showing on your screen.
The FRTC technology allows the GPU to render as many frames, as required on the screen, hence saving energy, offering smoother gameplay and reduced heat.
3) VSR – Virtual Super resolution – game render at a higher resolution like 2k or 4K and then the GPU scale it down to say 1080 P. What basically happens it smooth out the graphics and objects and environment looks visually better compared to 1080P graphics rendering.
This was actually introduced by Nvidia last year when they launched the Maxwell-based GTX 980 and GTX 970. Anyways AMD has integrated the technology and will offer better visual quality on screen.

I understand you will be excited to know how fast is AMD 390X Vs a 290X or GTX 970 or GTX 980. How fast are the other AMD cards R9 390 , R9 380 and lower variants. We will have to wait for the cards to arrive for the benchmarks and testing and later, we will share the performance comparison. The pricing for the cards is known for the international markets, as usual they will be 30-40% expensive in the Indian and some other Asian markets Vs the US/UK.
We are awaiting for some of the benchmarks and we will share them as soon as possible. It will be interesting to see how the 390 and 390X are priced in the market and whether they are able to break the dominance of Nvidia GTX 980 and hot selling GTX 970.
AMD also Introduced the Fiji based enthusiast grade high-performance Graphics cards –The AMD Fury X and AMD Fury to take on the Nvidia GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti.
