Before getting into details of the newly arrived gaming laptop, let’s look at the new exciting feature – the MUX switch.
What is MUX switch?
MUX stands for Multiplexer. Modern gaming laptops have two graphics cards – integrated and discreet. Without a MUX switch, the discreet GPU talks to the processor, and then the graphics are displayed on the monitor. With a MUX switch, the dedicated GPU directly pushes the graphics to the display.
This switch allows you to enable or disable the integrated graphics card manually.
In other words, the MUX switch lets you connect directly with the discrete GPU. This feature will boost performance by 9% to 30% and reduce latency. However, it also consumes more battery. You can turn on the option in the Asus Armoury crate software.
Asus has several laptops that comes with the MUX Switch. Most of the Asus laptops in 2022 will have the MUX switch, including the affordable Asus TUF series.
ASUS ROG M16 – Specifications and Other Features.
The premium M16 notebook comes with bigger 16 inches IPS WQXGA ROG Nebula display with 2560*1600 pixels resolution. Also, it has a 165 Hz refresh rate, 3 ms response time, 500 nits peak brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. Also, it has a 94% screen-to-body ratio with Dolby vision. It runs on the Windows 11 OS and comes with MS office.

Concluding Thoughts
Asus has chosen the Intel 12th Gen Core i7 chip, which is less power efficient than Ryzen 5000H series processor. However, the 12th Gen Intel i9/i7 is faster than the AMD Ryzen 5900H in gaming performance. However, the Intel chips also consume more energy and dissipate more heat. Nevertheless, this is a true gaming beast.
Don’t expect lower temperatures or very long battery life despite the 90 WHr battery capacity. You can turn off the MUX switch and let the internal GPU do the basic tasks when not gaming to prolong the battery life. It is not only excellent for gaming but is ideal for photo or video editing, considering a powerful Intel processor, expandable ram support, and color-accurate display.
The better build quality and excellent display, DDR5 Ram makes it more expensive than other laptops with similar specs.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 has recently got a refresh, but the new laptop will commercially launch in a couple of months.
