Asus have become premium this year, after launch of Zenfone 3 series, with premium design and material choices. Recently there’s been a new Asus device spotted at the Chinese Certification Website aka TENAA.
It’s code named as Asus X00GD. The device seems to be a budget smartphone with mid range spec sheet. The front of the device looks plain and simple with usual sensors and Asus logo. The Home Button which has a fingerprint sensor integrated, looks similar to that found on Zuk Z2 Plus.
The back of the phone looks bland and somewhat resembles the original iPhone look with its metal back and a plastic panel. The top part seems to be a continuation of metal which sets it apart from the common design choice of “plastic panels on top and bottom” for budget smartphones.
The device sports a 5.2 inch HD (1280*720) IPS LCD display. It’ll run on tried and tested MediaTek MT6750 chipset also found on LG K10 (2017), LG Stylus 3, Meizu M3, Huawei enjoy 6 and many more.
The new Asus smartphone is alleged to run on Android N 7.0 out of the box.
The phone wll be available in 3 variants;
- 2GB / 16GB
- 3GB / 32GB
- 4GB / 64GB
Interestingly all the variants will be sporting a dedicated SD card to expand the internal storage. It flaunts a 13 MP rear camera, and a 5 MP front camera for selfie lovers. The highlight of the phone is the battery power, it runs on massive 4850 mAH battery. It may not be the highest from Asus but is sufficiently large.
The phone still manages to only be slightly towards the bulkier side with 149.5×73.7×8.85mm dimensions and weighing almost 170g.
Apparently the phone might be available in 3 colour options Black, Luxury Gold and Rose Gold.
Pricing of Asus X00GD is still unknown as it is yet to release officially, pricing could be the key success factor here, with so many long battery smartphones in market. Asus have somewhat taken a backseat from the Mid Range Price segment and have become a premium brand.
This move have somewhat disappointed their loyal fans. The base variant of Asus Zenfone 3 came with a mid-ranger chipset, Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 priced at ₹27,000 which is priced close to OnePlus 3T.
The same happened with its bigger sibling, Zenfone 3 Deluxe, priced at Rs. 62,999. It topped the charts in terms of pricing and spec sheet. But competing with Apple, Samsung and Pixel is a tough for the Asus Flagship.
