Asus has launched a sleek laptop at the ongoing computers extravaganza – Computex 2017, in Taipei (Taiwan). Asus Chairman Jhonny Shih says that “Asus Zenbook Flip S (UX370) is the worlds thinnest 2 in 1 laptop”.
Thin is the new sexy mantra is prevailing in tech from Apple to Asus, everyone wants their gadgets to be as thin as possible. Apple every year announces that this is the thinnest and post powerful MacBook they have designed. The thinness bug has bitten all gadget manufacturers.
I love thin laptops and specially my – Lenovo Yoga 710 which is thin convertible with above average battery life. Coming to the new ZenBook Flip S, the blue color looks stunning and unique in a sea of silver and black laptops, it is refreshing. There is also a golden diamond cut edge frame along the sides to add a touch of premiumness tot the ZenBook Flip S
The Asus Zenbook Flip S is just 10.1 mm thick which is slightly thicker than your smartphone and it weighs just 1.1 Kg. The laptop comes with smaller footprint and has a small bezel display which Asus calls as “NanoEdge”.
Asus says that they have to invent a new hinge – “Ergo-hinge” to make sure that the flippable laptop stays thin and works seamlessly. Asus also claims that the hinge is quite duarable and can operate for 20,000 cycles.
The Asus Zenbook Flip S (UX370) comes with 4K (Ultra HD Display) 3840*2160 pixels and a whooping 331 Ppi. The display has 80% screen to body ratio and 178-degree viewing angle.
On the performance front, the Flip S won’t disappoint enthusiasts as it comes with Intel Core i7 kaby lake 7th gen processor with Boost speed upto 3.5 GHz. The laptop can also have upto 16 GB of DDR4 RAM clocked at 2133 MHz.
To keep things cool and quite Asus has invented a new “liquid crystal polymer fan” which is just 0.3 mm thick. Since it runs an Intel Core U processor, it needs a fan and is unlike those low powered Core M machines which come without a processor fan.
In addition to that, Asus Zenbook Flip S (UX370) comes with upto 1 TB of PCIE SSD which significantly faster when compared to the SATA-based SSD’s.
There is also an ergonomic back-lit keyboard which comes with 1 mm key travel (which looks less to me). There is also USB TYPE C 3.1 port for connectivity. You don’t get all the ports with this thin machine but a dock which has support for everything including HDMI, RJ45 Ethernet, USB 3.0 and SD card reader.
The Laptop will also come with a fingerprint scanner to work with the Windows Hello. It would be running on the Windows 10 OS.
Asus has not forgotten about the sound in the race for thinness, it comes with Harman Kardon speakers to entice audiophiles. Things get more interesting with the Asus Zenbook Flip S (UX370) as it has support for Asus Pen and Windows Ink.
The Asus Pen and Windows Ink allows you to take notes on the touch screen enabled FlipBook with ease as you do on a Samsung Note 5 or an iPad Pro.
The laptop is no slouch when it comes to battery performance, it offers 11.5 hours of battery life and also comes with fast charging support. And you thought fingerprint scanner and fast charging is meant for only your cool smartphones. The laptop can charge upto 60% in 49 minutes.
Impressive…. who wants One….
The Asus Zenbook Flip S (UX370) is priced at $1099 or close to Rs. 70,000 for the base model and will start shipping in September 2017. Asus has also launched the UX 330 and UX 430 laptops which also offer good performance and are thin.
