The Asus Zenfone 3 and Asus Zenfone Ultra got unveiled today at Computex 2016 , in Taipei , Taiwan. The smartphones got unveiled along with the Zenfone 3 Deluxe as well as the transformer / Zenbook laptops. The event was presided over by the Asus Chairman Jonney Shih who also introduced other products like a cool looking robot known as ZenBo at the Event.

Design – The Zenfone 3 comes with decent specs and more importantly has a new metal and glass body more like a One Plus X or the Samsung A7. The smartphone has a 2.5 D curve glass with Corning’s Gorilla glass 3 coating on the front and back of the device. The smartphone has the Zen’s signature concentric-circle pattern at the back.
Asus calls the design as “Zen design”.
The edges and corners are made of metal to add strength to the frame, a glass and metal body make it look stunning. The smartphone is 7.7 mm thin and it weighs 155 grams.
Performance – The Asus Zenfone 3 is powered by the Snapdragon 625 processor (Octa-Core SOC) from Qualcomm, which is made from the 14nm manufacturing process and comes with 4 GB Of Ram. There is adreno 506 GPU for playing games on the large display.
The processor is quite energy efficient and also has support CAT 6 LTE upto 300 MBPS data transfer speeds.
Camera – The Asus Zenfone 3 comes with a 16 Mega pixel camera with Sony IMX298 sensor and with optical image stabilization too. The camera comes with 6P largan lens and has f/2.0 aperture for capturing low light images. The auto-focus system is Trifocus like the Zenfone Deluxe utilizing laser , PDAF and continuous auto-focus. The camera can focus in 0.03 seconds as per Asus. It also has the Sapphire glass protection.
The Asus Zenfone 3 is capable of recording the 4K (UHD) videos. The front camera is also decent with 8 MP resolution and wide angle lens.
Display – The smartphones comes with 5.5 inch bezel IPS LCD display and Full HD (1920*1080) resolution, and is protected by the Corning’s Gorilla glass 3. It comes with thin 2.1 mm bezel and has 77.3 screen to body ratio.
Sound – Asus has integrated the Sonic sound technology in the Zenfone 3 which they use in the Zenbook laptops with 5 magnet speakers to have studio-grade 24-bit/192kHz playback audio quality .
OS & Storage – The Asus Zenfone 3 runs on the Zen UI 3.0 along with the Android Marshmallow 6.0 OS. The smartphone will be available in 32 GB / 64 GB and 128 GB variants with option to increase the storage to 128 GB using the Micro-sd card.
Connectivity – The smartphone comes with a fingerprint scanner at the back, there is a USB 2.0 Type C port at the bottom located between the speaker grills. The Asus Zenfone 3 has Dual sim support and is 4G LTE compatible.
Battery Life – The Asus Zenfone 3 comes with 3000 mAH battery capacity which is sufficient to run the device all day, considering Asus also has expertise in doing tons of software optimizations to extend the battery life.
Price and Colors – The smartphone is priced at $249 or Rs. 16,000, and may take a few weeks to launch in the Indian market. The smartphone is available in 4 colors – White , Black, Gold and Aqua Blue.
The Asus Zenfone 3 looks evolved and for good and it is more suited to high end smartphone buyers who are looking for best bang for buck. The price is also very reasonable and we will have to see the pricing in India when it gets launched.

Early Leaks Asus Zenfone 3 Series Launch
Asus is gearing up for the next generation of the Zenfone as per the recent leaks. Asus Zenfone will come in the month of May or June 2016 but tech circles are abuzz with some hot gossip about the upcoming Asus smartphone.
The new leaks regarding the Zenfone 3 got out today and the first images of the Zenfone 3 looks quite amazing. The design looks premium and much better compared to the current generation of Zenfone 2.
The front side of the smartphone shows no home button on the upcoming Zenfone and the display seems to have thin bezels. The smartphone seems to have metal and glass construction and have a shiny finish. The device is visible in black , gold and silver colors. The side of the smartphone comes with curved metallic frame while the back side seems to have glass and metal finish.
The front camera looks interesting with a 5/8 MP lens and there is also a dedicated flash at the front side of the smartphone. Rear side of the smartphone has fingerprint scanner as was leaked in December 2015.
The rear camera comes in a square fitting and looks slightly bulged from the smartphone body, though the whole back cover of the Asus Zenfone 3 looks really premium. There is a Dual LED flash is clearly visible and on one side of the camera is the laser auto-focus system to get a quick lock on the subject.
The smartphone will also come with 2.5 D curved glass which I think is a must for any modern smartphone as it provides really smooth finish to the display and just feel very natural in hand. The smartphone will also ditch the Micro USB port and will have the USB Type C port.
Zenfone 3 Deluxe
There was also another leaked image which is alleged as the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe which also features a home button at the front of the device. rest of the build quality and design looks quite similar to the ZenFone 3. The fingerprint scanner is embedded at the front of the device in the home screen button.
The new Zenfones looks exciting and we are more curious to know about the internal hardware of the device and camera quality, may be we will get lucky and get some more updates very soon.

As per the recent information shared by a Taiwan based smartphone fingerprint scanner maker Taiwan-based Elan Microelectronics and China-based Goodfix , Asus is planning to use the fingerprint scanner technology in the upcoming Zenfone 3.
With more and more smartphones getting the Fingerprint scanner technology , IC design companies are predicting that soon the fingerprint scanners will be available for $5 (Rs. 330) in the coming months.
Fingerprint scanners are going to be essential part of smartphones with Android pay and other related technologies taking shape in future.
Currently about 25% of the new smartphones are getting manufactured using Finger print scanner technology, it is likely to cross the 50% smartphone penetration by 2016 as per a recent report.
The smartphone will have either the Intel powered processor or a Snapdragon processor, Mediatek is not likely to be used for the smartphone.
The Asus Zenfone 2 uses the Intel Atom Z3560, Quad Core processor while Asus has used the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 in the less pricier Zenfone 2 laser.
Asus has also announced back in October that they will start a manufacturing hub in India and share the company’s vision for the Indian market.
Peter Chang Country head Asus further added, “We are aggressively targeting the Indian market. We aim to achieve 5% market share in the country by next year and empower all our customers with luxury.”
Asus plans to expand it’s position in the mobile market as was told by the Asus CEO Jerry Shen and will be specially focused in R&D for smartphones.
Asus plans to expand in new markets in Asia and Africa, while it has a strong presence in India, Taiwan , Brazil , Russia and South East Asia.
