Asus has yesterday added a new smartphone to their 2017 portfolio. It is a budget smartphone priced below Rs 10,000.
They’ve released an entry-level Asus Zenfone Go 5.0 LTE (ZB500KL) in India at Rs 8,999. It’s a successor to Zenfone Go 5.0 LTE (T500).
Design – Design wise this latest offering from Asus, continues the legacy of the older generations with a poly-plastic body and the iconic concentric circle finish on the front panel and buttons. There is a brushed metal finish back cover and the new phone comes in Gold, Red, White, Black and sea green colors.
Front side has Asus Logo at the top of the display and the bottom has the off-screen navigation keys, which makes the smartphone taller for no good reason.
The back features another Asus branding just below the vertical volume rocker. There’s also a Zenfone stamp residing above the speaker grill.
Performance – Spec-wise, the Zenfone Go 5.0 LTE (ZB500KL) runs on the dated Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Chipset along with Adreno 306 GPU. The phone sports a 5 inch IPS LCD, (720×1280) HD, TFT display. Egregiously it has only 67.5% of screen-to-body ratio.
Storage – The processor is paired with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. Which can be expanded up to 64 GB storage through the micro SD card.
Camera – The Zenfone Go 5.0 LTE flaunts 13 MP, f/2.0 rear camera, and a 5 MP, f/2.0 front shooter for clicking selfies.
Connectivity options for the smartphone includes – 3G/4G/VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, FM radio and Bluetooth v4.0.
OS and Battery – It ships with Android Marshmallow v6.0 out of the box, which runs along with the Zen UI. Powering the smartphone is a decently sized 2600 mAH battery. There is a traditional micro USB V 2.0 which also supports USB OTG and it comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
It lacks fingerprint sensor and fast charging capabilities which have become quite a norm in 2016 and a must in 2017.
The phone will be available via Amazon India. It offers lots of color options from Glacier Gray, Sheer Gold, Silver Blue, Glamour Red, Pearl White to Charcoal Black.
The price tag of Rs 8,999 makes it tougher for Asus to pitch to the right set of audience. The presence of Xiaomi, Lenovo, LeEco have overshadowed a lot of offerings in this price range. Slowly and steadily, Reliance’s LYF series are also making their mark in the market.
