Zopo is the latest Chinese brand to enter the Indian telecom mobile arena. We have more than 30 major smartphone brands competing in the Indian market, and yet another Chinese brand come to sell the cheapest 3 GB RAM smartphone so far. It is the only smartphone in the 12K to the 13K range which has 3 GB of Ram currently.
The ZOPO Speed 7 (ZP951) is an Octa-core smartphone and comes with 3 GB of ram (currently cheapest in India) and is available for Rs. 12,999.
The Xiaomi Mi4 has 3 GB of Ram and is currently priced at Rs. 14,999. The smartphone will be available in black and white colors on Snapdeal.
Zopo in its native land China has many other smartphone models on sale like the ZOPO Speed 7 Plus and Zopo Color C.
About ZOPO & Expansion Plans in India
- We are looking to sell at least a million units by the end of the year,” said Kevin Xu, the CEO of Zopo Mobile. Though the brand is a late entrant in the market, we are sure that we will be able to capture the market with our technologically advanced smartphones.
Zopo – Service Centers and Distribution
ZOPO is not planning to open any service centers in the country but has tied up with the Indian company Adcom to extend support for service. Adcom has about 200 service centers as per the statement of Adcom Chairman and founder that they will lend support to the ZOPO customers through Adcom service centers.
There is nothing wrong with such an arrangement as long as they can serve customers, but technology know-how and spare parts availability can be a challenge for such an agreement.
Secondly, this is an easy fix for the Chinese mobile makers who don’t have to risk their skin when doing business in India. They don’t invest anything in setting showrooms and service centers in India, no hiring or employees needed.
Since Zopo is a Snapdeal only product and it is fairly easy for them just to import and sell online using logistics and distribution of Snapdeal.
This is the only reason that a lot of buyers prefer to buy the branded smartphones from Sony, Samsung, and HTC.
