Coolpad Cool 1 is unveiled in India today and the new Dual Camera smartphone will go on sale starting 5th Jan 2017, exclusively on Amazon India.
The mobile was launched in China back in August 2016. It is jointly developed by LeEco and Coolpad. For info, Coolpad and LeEco have merged parent companies in China and now are a single entity. The Cool 1 is the first device built by the collaboration of both the companies.
Coolpad has sold more than 3 million smartphones in India since inception, as shared by the Coolpad Global, CEO Mr. James Du. Coolpad aims to be among the top 5 smartphone companies in India and China. Syed Tajuddin (Coolpad India CEO) shared that Coolpad has more than 25% share in sub 8K price mobiles on Amazon India.
The Coolpad Cool 1 Dual comes in 2 variants in India and both the variants are available for Rs. 13,999.
- Cool 1 Dual 32 GB Storage and 3 GB RAM – Available offline.
- Cool 1 Dual 32 GB Storage and 4 GB RAM – Available on Amazon India.
The 3 GB Ram version will be available offline in retail stores while the 4 GB version is exclusive to Amazon. To reiterate, the price for both the models is same. Buying online is a better deal.
Design and Display
Cool 1 Dual is a smartphone which looks more like the LeEco designed phones. It resembles the LE2 or the Le 2 Max with a similar rectangular construction, slightly higher thickness and the iconic mirror finish fingerprint scanner at the back.
Though there is Coolpad branding at the back of the device, signifying that the device is from Coolpad in India. The USB Type C port at the bottom of the device resides between 2 speakers. Having 2 speakers is always a good thing.
The design looks robust and metallic finish makes it look more premium when compared to most budget phones.
There is a 5.5 Inch IPS LCD display with Full HD resolution (1920*1080) pixels with 401 PPI.
Furthermore, it is a performance beast, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 Processor clocked at 1.8 GHz. The 8 Core processor offers enough muscle to kill any modern Android game. There is Adreno 510 GPU which offers superior graphical performance.
As far as the performance goes the Cool 1 can match the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the Xiaomi Mi Max, which are one of the best performance devices in sub 15k price range.
Also, the mobile comes with 32 GB of internal storage, expandable upto 128 GB using the Micro-sd card.
The other highlight is the presence of Dual Camera setup at the back of the device. There are Dual Rear cameras ( 13 MP + 13 MP) with f/2.0 aperture and Sony Lens. One camera is monochromatic which helps take a black and white image and takes care of details and depth of field.
The other camera captures the colors. The image signal processor merges both the images and creates a final image. It works on the same principle of the Dual camera like the Huawei P9 and the Huawei Honor 8. (pioneers of Dual camera photography).
To click selfies, there is an 8 Megapixel front camera which comes with f/2.2 aperture lens.
OS and Features
Further, the phone comes with EUI 5.8 along with the Android marshmallow 6.0 OS. The software is optimized by the LeEco instead of the Coolpad. Coolpad phones usually come with Cool UI. The smartphone comes with a fingerprint scanner at the back of the device with a mirror finish surface.
Connectivity & Battery
Notably, it has 4G LTE as well as VOLTE support and can work with JIO, Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Sim. The smartphone also supports native 3G and 2G networks. There is a USB type C port which also enables fast charging feature.
Also, the mobile boasts of great battery life as the smartphone comes with a 4000 mAH Capacity battery. There is Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 support that ensures that the battery can charge rapidly.
Overall the Cool 1 Dual is a very solid offering for the price tag and packs nearly everything that we can expect in this price range. However, there are some shortcomings like non-expandable storage, a thick black bezel on the display (similar to LeEco).
Seems like Amazon has delayed the 5th Jan 2017 Sale for Cool 1 Dual.
