First Look at Google Pixel XL 2 – Stunning Display / Single Rear Camera
First Look at Google Pixel XL 2 – Update – 4th August 2017 – The new image leaks reportedly from a Google supplier shows the new Google Pixel XL 2 The detailed image showcase the device with good details and gives a heads up to tech enthusiast on what the next Google phone might look like.
The Google Pixel XL 2 is codenamed as “Taimen” and this year it is expected to come with a 6 Inch display. The smartphone is manufactured by LG this year. The last year pixel phone was made by HTC.
The display is the most noticeable thing you would have observed in the above picture. It is said to have a 2:1 aspect ratio like the LG G6 and the top and the bottom bezel are minimal like the Samsung S8. The display also looks to be curved at the edges like the LG G6 and will come with a 2.5D glass and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The back side has a glass and metal finish – Google is not going all glass to ape the Samsung S8 as far as the back panel goes. But will continue with the dual tone design which they introduced with the Pixel phones in 2016.
The glass area, however, is shrunk and the fingerprint scanner is placed now in the metallic back plate. The other notable change is the big single lens camera. There is no Dual camera, but a large single camera lens on the upcoming Google phone.
The phone is made by LG which is also making the display for the Pixel. However, LG has most of it’s phones like the V20 and G6 offering dual camera setup, it’s odd to know they would be going with a single camera setup in 2017.
Google has a brilliant camera in the Pixel 2016, the best camera you can find on any smartphone. Google may want to retain that and not play with the more experimental dual camera’s, probably this year.
Though iPhone 7s Plus and the Samsung Note 8 are rumoured to come with Dual camera setup to offer background blur for portrait shots using the dual camera technology.
The leaks from Android Police suggests, that the pixel phone can also have a squeezable display, like the HTC U11. You can squeeze the edges to launch the Google assistant or camera App. Though, it sounds a bit strange to me as the phone this year is made by LG not by HTC.
It is also likely if Qualcomm can push out a Snapdragon 836 to power the device like last year Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 820 and then the 821 processor with a minor performance boost. The Pixel phones are due in October 2017.
That will be a good differentiating factor for Pixel compared to the Samsung S8 and the HTC U11. The smartphone will also offer the best software experience, running the latest Android O from Google.
These are the details available so far, and by the looks of the new Pixel, Google may want to turn their rather vanilla looking Pixel phone into a more tasty flavour this year.
