All Latest Foldable Mobiles Worth Buying Right Now

Let’s Check out the latest Foldable Smartphones from Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Motorola, and other brands.

On 11 August 2021, the South Korean tech giant unveiled the new foldable smartphones at the Galaxy unpacked event.

The new products include Galaxy Buds 2 earbuds, Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch, and two premium phones – Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Both the phones are very different and serve different purposes.

The Galaxy Fold 3 is a large phone that you can use as a tablet when fully opened, whereas the Flip 3 becomes a compact phone when folded, pretty easy to carry and use.

Let’s check out the features and specs for the new Samsung phones of these two phones in detail:

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 (5G)

Starting with the core specs of the Samsung Z Fold 3 5G.

The Z Fold 3 looks like a standard smartphone when it is folded and When it is fully open, it looks like a Tab and offers a large 7.6-inch dynamic AMOLED 2x infinity flex display along with a QXGA+(2,208×1,768 pixels) resolution.

The Z Fold 3 5G also comes with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate for buttery scrolling.

Powering the device is the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor that is fabricated on a 5nm chipset along with an Adreno 660 GPU for handling gaming and graphical tasks.

Notably, the phone operates on an Android 11 with One UI 3.5 on top.

However, it got the same triple rear camera setup as its predecessor – a 12MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture, a 12MP ultra-wide lens with f/2.4 aperture, and a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.2 aperture that can record 4k videos at 60fps.

It also comes with an innovative under-display camera with a 10MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture. So we get the full view display without a notch or cut-out camera.

Famous Youtube MKBHD shared some of the samples for the selfie camera, the under-display camera quality looks pretty average, at least from these initial samples. For Audio, it offers stereo speakers that deliver multi-dimensional sound with incredible spatial effects.

Additionally, we have got the modern connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C 3.2, S-Pen, and 5G supportable.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G has a trendy side-mounted fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone.

Furthermore, the phone got a decent 4400mAH battery that supports 25 Watts wired fast charging, 11 Watts wireless charging, and a 4.5 Watts reverse charging.

Lastly, it comes in 3 eye-catching colors: Phantom Black, Phantom Silver, and Phantom Green, and it will be available in the US for purchase from 27 August 2021 along with a starting price of $1,799.99 (roughly Rs. 1,33,600).

It will likely launch in India with a price tag of more than 1.6 lakhs. More on the India launch later.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 (5G)

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G comes as a replacement for the Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G.

The Z Flip 3 5G comes with a sleek and stylish design and offers a 6.7 inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with FHD+(2640*1080) pixels resolution. When flipped, it offers a 1.1 inch Super AMOLED display with a 300*112 pixels resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

Powering the phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 octa-core processor is used that we have seen in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G.

It also operates on an Android 11 based on the Samsung One UI 3.5

For Imaging, the Z Flip 3 5G offers you a Dual rear camera setup including a 12MP primary camera along with an aperture of f/1.8 and a 12MP ultrawide lens that can record 4k videos at 30/60fps.

Also, it is equipped with a 10MP selfie camera that comes along with an aperture of f/2.4.

Same as Z Fold 3 5G, it also has stereo speakers that offer an immersive audio experience.

Connectivity options includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, and 5G connectivity support.

Furthermore, the phone got a 3300mAH battery that’s not huge compared to most other Android phones but it comes with fast charging support (25 Watts Wired and 11 Watts Wireless).

The starting price in the US market is $999.99 (Rs. 74,200).

Lastly, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G is available in 7 beautiful color options that include Phantom Black, Green, Lavender, Cream, White, Pink, and Gray.

Concluding Thoughts

Both phones seem futuristic and run on the top of the line hardware. The Z Fold 3 5G offers a very different value proposition to the buyers as you can watch videos and content on the large display.

The Z Flip 3 comes with an incredible style quotient but a weak battery that you may have to charge more than once per day.

Oppo Find N

After teasing it last week, Oppo finally launched its first folding phone in China named Oppo Find N.

The Oppo Find N is a tough competitor for the previously launched Samsung Z Fold 3.

As per the brand, the device is the result of their 4 years of research and development.

The Oppo Find N comes with two displays, including a large 7.1-inch inner display and a 5.49-inch external display along with an 8.4:9 and 18.9 aspect ratio, respectively. In fact, it is smaller than the iPhone 13 mini when you see it from the front. It has a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,000nits brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

Powering it is the Qualcomm SD 888 chipset(5nm) to power the phone paired with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.

It carries a Triple rear camera setup – 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor, 16MP ultrawide lens, and 13MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. We have a 32MP camera for selfies. There are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support for an immersive audio experience.

Connectivity – WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, USB Type-C, and 4G/5G LTE support.

It has a 4500mAH battery that supports 33 Watts superVOOC charging, 15 Watts wireless charging, and 10 Watts reverse charging.

Lastly, the Oppo Find N comes in 2 variants: – 8GB RAM and 256GB storage at CNY 7,699(roughly Rs. 92,000), 12GB RAM and 512GB storage at CNY 8,999(roughly Rs. 1,08,000).

It will go on sale from 23rd December 2021 while the pre-booking of the phone has already started.

SAMSUNG Galaxy Z Fold 2:

Samsung has launched its most anticipated foldable phone for 2020 – Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

It comes with a tablet size screen making it easy for users to read and work on it.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is an expensive device and costs Rs. 1,49,990 in India and the pre-orders have begun.

It has a larger front display with a robust hinge design plus a more sophisticated split-screen software.

The phone is available in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black.

The foldable smartphone has large 7.6 inches Full HDR10+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X capacitive screen with 1768 * 2208 pixels resolution and 373 PPI.

The cover display has 6.23 inches Super AMOLED screen with 816 * 2260 pixels resolution.

Both screens have a 120Hz refresh rate.

The gigantic phone weighs 282 g. When the phone’s folded, it measures 159.2 * 68 * 16.8 mm, whereas 159.2 * 128.8 * 6.9 when unfolded.

The mobile comes with a Glass back and has an aluminum frame. Further, the device has stereo speakers that are tuned by AKG.

Fueling is a massive 4500 mAh battery with 25W charging, 11W fast wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

Notably, the foldable smartphone is powered by an Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset (7nm+) with a clock speed of 3.09 GHz.

It runs on One UI 2.5 based Android 10 and comprises Adreno 650 GPU.

As far as memory is concerned, the phone has no expansion slots for storage. It is available in two variants of 12 GB RAM and 256 GB/512 GB Storage space (UFS 3.1).

Additionally, It comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Moreover, the beautifully designed phone comes with Triple Rear camera setup, 12MP ( f/1.8 aperture) wide lens with OIS, and Dual Pixel PDAF, 12 MP (f/24 aperture) telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and 12 MP ( f/2.2 aperture) ultra-wide lens. It supports 4K at 60 fps.

It has a dual selfie camera, and both lenses have 10 MP resolution with f/2.2 aperture ( One on the Cover display and the other inside the phone).

Huawei Mate Xs

Huawei has announced the launch of its new foldable phone, Mate XS. It is claimed to be the fastest 5G smartphone with robust connectivity and Integrated User experience.

The phone has a large foldable OLED Full View display that folds to a 6.6″ AMOLED screen with 2200 x 2480 pixels (~414 PPI density).

Considering the architecture, it has used two layers of aerospace-grade and was designed with the Falcon Wing approach that comes with an innovative hinge. This phone will deliver an immersive visual experience. The power button has intelligently been given to the fingerprint scanner.

The foldable screen offers you to work on two independent Windows to be used as a dock for your favorite apps or a split-screen and even a Floating Window that can handle small tasks.

Huawei-mate-XS

Powering the device is Octa-Core HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G processor with a maximum clock speed of 2.86 GHz and Mali-G76 MP16 GPU, it delivers a power-packed performance.

Running the phone is Android 10.0 OS based on EMUI 10.0 Its network spectrum includes 2G/3G/4G/ 5G SA and NSA support that provide seamless connection even on the go.

It comes with a Flying Fish Fin Cooling technology designed keeping in mind the foldable form factor. So you can enjoy binge-watching ultra HD videos or play 3D games without worrying about your phone heating up.

The camera setup includes Leica Optics, HDR, dual-LED Flash with a 40MP (f/1.8) Quad-Bayer main camera, 16MP (f/2.2) Ultra-Wide lens, 8MP (f/2.4) Telephoto lens, and a 3D Time-of-Flight sensor. It uses the main camera as the front camera. The cameras offer 30x Hybrid zoom, OIS, and AI image stabilization resulting in perfectly detailed shots.

Backing up the phone is a powerful 4500 mAh Li-Po battery. It also sports a 55W fast charger, and with the Huawei SuperCharge, it charges 85% battery in just 30 minutes.

The phone is quite hefty, ~ 300gms, and comes with 8GB RAM and 512GB internal storage.

The phone is expected to be high end priced at Rs 195,290.

Microsoft Surface Duo – The Next-Gen Phone from Microsoft

Microsoft has recently unveiled the most anticipated new dual-screen Surface phone that offers unique features and experience.

The phone is available in a gorgeous Glacier tone and it looks like a book.

It comes pre-loaded with Microsoft applications that are fine-tuned to improve productivity.

There are several companies like Samsung, LG, Huawei that are pushing the Dual display tech; and we are now getting some more usable phones than the first iterations launched in the last 2 years. This dual-screen slimmest phone comes with a thickness of 4.8mm when both the screens are open and 9.9mm when it’s folded.

It weighs nearly 250g and has a dual battery of capacity 3577mAh with 18W charging support. The single-screen size measures 5.6 inches AMOLED display with 1350 * 1800 pixels resolution, 401 PPI, and 4:3 aspect ratio.

The dual-screen holds a display of huge 8.1 inches, 2700 * 1800 pixels resolution, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. It rotates on 360 Degree hinge. The phone allows us to work separately on a single display or both according to our requirements.

Further, It allows us to run two different apps at the same time. The material guarding the display to protect it from wear and tear is Corning Gorilla Glass. Notably, there is a single camera on the inner side of the 11MP lens with an f/2.0 aperture.

It runs on Android, albeit a heavily skinned version of Google’s mobile OS.

As far as the memory is managed, it comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB/256GB internal storage space.

The decent dual-screen Microsoft Surface Duo comes with a price tag starting from roughly $1399 (INR 1,03,999).
