Gionee has launched the new smartphone Gionee Elife S6 and is already available on Flipkart for purchase. The smartphone comes in 3 different color variants including the Rose Gold variant. The rose gold color was featured in the iPhone 6s and looks quite stunning.
The smartphone was launched in China back in November 2015 and is now released for the Indian market. Gionee also launched the Gionee P5W a budget smartphone couple of days back.
Gionee has just not carried the iPhone 6 color but the naming convention is also similar “ Gionee S6”. It is quite strange to see most of the smartphone companies using a 6 variant – Samsung S6 and Nexus 6P, they may need some more creative naming convention.
The Gionee Elife S6 comes in three colors (rose gold, silver and gold). The smartphone looks fantastic with thin frame and metal build with brushed metal finish giving it more premium looks compared to budget devices. To me the silver variant looks somewhat like the recently launched Huawei Honor 5X. But the build and finish on the Gionee looks better and the smartphone is lighter plus thinner when compared to the Huawei device.
The smartphone weighs 148 grams and has a thickness of 6.9 mm. The screen to body ratio is good with 77.8%, the bezels on the device are thinner too. Gionee boasts of 89% metal body for the smartphone.
The smartphone is not a specs monster, neither has been Gionee going down that road of beating every one with best specs at an affordable price. Gionee wants to deliver superior quality at decent price. The smartphone is priced @ Rs. 19,999 and offers hardware specs very similar to the Lenovo K4 Note or the Huawei Honor 5X.
Gionee Elife S6comes with 5.5 inch screen like most of the smartphones getting launched these days in 10 to 20k price range. The Gionee Elife S6display has Super AMOLED screen which are better and more expensive compared to the IPS LCD displays. But the resolution is not very high, Gionee Elife S6has HD (1280*720) resolution with 267 PPI.
Gionee Elife S6 comes with a Octa-Core Mediatek 6753 Processor clocked at 1.3 Ghz, similar to the Lenovo K4 Note or the Panasonic Eluga Turbo. The Mediatek Processor is accompanied by the Mali – T720 GPU which is good to play games on HD resolution.
The Gionee Elife S6 comes with 3 GB of Ram which is more than enough for the Amigo 3.1 UI and the Android Lollipop. Amigo UI is one of the best feature rich OS with features like Chameleon and camera enhancements, Mood card, AmiClone and system manager to name afew.
The Gionee Elife S6 comes with 32 Gb of inbuilt storage which can be further expanded to 128 GB using a micro SD card. There is 23 GB space which is available for users.
The smartphone has Dual Sim Slot out of which the second sim slot is used by the memory card (it’s a hybrid slot). The smartphone comes with USB Type C reversible port for charging and connection to other devices.
The Gionee Elife S6 comes with support for 4G LTE and also has support for VOLTE (Voice over LTE).
The smartphone has a 3150 mAH capacity battery (non –removable) which offers all day battery life. It is really impressive design and space utilization by Gionee to fit a large size battery in just 6.9 mm thick mobile.
The Gionee Elife S6 comes with a 13 Mega Pixel Rear camera with auto-focus and LED Flash with f/2.0 aperture. The rear camera comes with PDAF (Phase detection Auto-focus) technology to focus and click images quickly.
The smartphone also has a 5 MP front camera to take selfies.
I have listed a lot of positives about the Gionee Elife S6 and here are some of the shortcomings – it lacks Fingerprint scanner which even most budget smartphones are coming with. The processor is a mediocre performance SOC nothing like a Snapdragon 808 of Google Nexus 5P or Snapdragon 650. The display is HD despite being a Super Amoled type would have loved to see a FHD in this price range.
Overall the Smartphone offers good value for the buck but not the best in the mobile Arena.
