Gionee has launched a new high-end smartphone priced at Rs. 23,999. The Gionee S6 Pro was originally launched in China back in June 2016 for CNY 1999 (Rs. 20,200), and we predicted that it will launch in India for Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 24,000.
Key Specs and Features
For starters, it comes with 5.5 inches Full HD display (1920*1080) resolution and 2.5 D curve glass. Also, the display has Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The build quality looks really premium and robust with a design which is quite similar to the Huawei Honor 8 or the Gionee S6. Besides, there is an oblong shaped home button at the front and there is a tiny speaker grill at the top of the screen.
The back side dawns the new smiley logo from Gionee below the circular camera and there are visible antenna lines.
Also, it is will be available for purchase in Gold as well as Rose gold color variants. There is a fingerprint scanner which is embedded in the home button on the front side which Gionee claims is one of the fastest they have ever shipped with the ability to unlock the device in 0.1 seconds.
Powering the device is the MediaTek 6755, 64-Bit Octa-Core processor, with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz (more commonly called as Helio P10). And there is 4 GB of ram to take care of all multi-tasking needs. As per some early leaks, we were expecting it come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor instead of the MediaTek SOC.
Notably, it runs on the Android Marshmallow 6.0 along with the Amigo 3.2 skin on top.
Camera and Battery Life
The other key highlight of the smartphone is it’s camera capabilities. For photography, it comes with 13 Megapixel rear camera with fast autofocus system and phase detection autofocus technology. Also, the camera can click decent images and can also create GIFs.
What’s more, the rear camera comes with Dual LED flash and camera supports night mode, panorama mode, burst mode, magic focus to take decent images. Additionally, there is an 8 MP front camera which can click wide angle selfies and group selfies with ease.
It is sleek and has a thickness of 7.6 mm and weighs 170 grams which is not too much for a 5.5-inch device. Fueling the mobile is a 3130 mAh capacity battery that delivers up to 39 hours of talk-time and standby time of up to 558 hours. Practically it can work all day without the need for a charge.
Additionally, it comes with 64 GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128 GB using a micro-sd card. Notably, it has the modern USB type C port for connectivity and charging.
Lastly, the Pro has 4G LTE as well as VOLTE support and will work with all major Indian telecom operators.
Is it a Good Option?
Furthermore, Gionee has even launched their first VR Headset along with the S6 PRO for Rs. 2499 and will go on sale starting 1st October 2016.
Gionee is following a unique strategy as far product launches are concerned in the Indian market. They are present strongly in mid-range, mostly in the price bracket of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 25,000. The company is not competing in starting range of below 8K or premium segment above 30K.
