Gionee today launched the new selfies smartphone after much teasing on twitter for almost a week. The new Gionee S6s rivals the Oppo F1s launched this month (7th Aug) priced similar to the Gionee S6s.
Camera – The Gionee S6s comes with a 8 Mega Pixel front facing camera (f/2.2 aperture and 5P Lens) which is accompanied by a dedicated flash to click selfies in low light conditions. The Oppo F1s has a 16 MP front camera with screen flash to click bright detailed photos.
The rear camera for the Gionee S6s comes with 13 Mega pixel lens and Sony IMX258 sensor, f/2.0 aperture and led flash.
Build and Design – The Gionee S6s has a class matte metallic finish and looks quite premium in the gold and silver color variants. Gionee S6s comes with the new Gionee Logo unveiled at the MWC in Feb 2016. The logo has a tag line “Make Smiles”. The design looks more inspired by the Gionee M5 Lite which comes with similar on screen navigation keys like the S6s.
“The smiling face on new logo shows our desire to create happiness by developing built-in user-friendly technology and easy-to-use communication tools,” said William Lu, President of Gionee.
The smartphone has a circular fingerprint scanner placed at the back below the rear camera.
Performance – The Smartphone is powered by the Octa-Core Mediatek 6753 Processor clocked at 1.3 GHz and comes with Mali MP2 GPU. The processor is similar to the Lenovo K3 Note and offers a 38k score on Antutu, slower than a Helio P10 (le 1S) or Snapdragon 617 (Moto G4 Plus).
Though the smartphone comes with the Android Marshmallow 6.0 along with the Gionee custom Amigo 3.2 UI. The 3 GB Ram and the latest OS offers better user experience without any lag.
Display – The smartphone looks are enhanced by the 2.5D curve glass on the display panel. The Gionee S6s has a gorgeous Full HD(1920*1080) display which comes with 5.5 inch screen and 401 PPI. The smartphone triumphs the Oppo F1s in the display department which comes with a 5.5 inch HD screen.
Battery – The Gionee S6s comes with a decent battery and is not a thin sleek device like most selfies smartphones. It packs 3130 mAH battery capacity which is sufficient to last full day with single charge.
Storage & Connectivity – The Gionee S6s comes with 32 GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128 GB using a micro SD card. The smartphone has dual hybrid sim support and offers connectivity options like 4G LTE and VOLTE. (And you can also use a RJIO Sim with this if you can grab one). The S6s comes with more traditional micro USB port ( no USB Type C) and a 3.5 mm headphone jack (No CDLA headphones either).
Price and Availability – The smartphone will go on sale at 2:00 PM on Monday, 22 Aug’16 priced at Rs. 17,999. The smartphone will also go on sale in brick and mortar stores across geographies in the coming days.
Overall it is a decent offering from Gionee with decent camera , build and design and Full HD 2.5D curve glass display. Processor could have been better, but again the price is justified for the new Gionee S6s.
