Google’s Android one project has not been as successful in India, as Google would have wanted it to be. We started to think that its Android one initiative is pushed to back seat. But Google’s Turkish partner for Android One has launched the new GM5 Plus mobile to boost the Android One initiative.
Google’s Indian partner for Android one seemingly are showing less interest, but we hope that we will see some good smartphones in 2016. Google back in September 2014 started the venture with three Indian phone brands – Karbonn, Spice, and Micromax to launch the first Android One mobiles.
All the 3 Android Mobiles were targeted at low-end market. In Google’s language first-time smartphone buyers of India.
Later on, Google launched the Android One smartphone made by Lava in July 2016.
The response to the Lava Pixel V1 was mediocre from one from the Indian buyers. Proving the fact that Google’s Latest Android updates for Android One Devices are not just enough to attract a large number of buyers.
The Android One is now present in many countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, and Sri Lanka and now in Turkey.
This time GM5 plus (made by the Turkish smartphone company knows as General Mobile) with more powerful hardware is going to be the Android One Mobile. This is likely to be available in the Indian or other markets in future. Initially will go on sale in Turkey in March 2016 and later Google Plans to bring it to 15 more countries.
The smartphone is a $300 mobile, and it gives us hints that Google may bring in more quality devices across the globe in this price range. A strategic change from first-time buyers to mid/high range buyers.
Design and Display
The phone carries a textured back cover with a metallic build. The smartphone is available in two colors – Black and White.
The smartphone carries a 5.5 inch Full HD Display 1920*1080 pixels resolution with 401 PPI. The screen is smooth and curvy like iPhone with use of 2.5 D Glass there is also a Gorilla Glass 4 protection on the screen.
The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 617 processor with 3 GB of RAM, which is the same hardware configuration of HTC One A9. The Snapdragon 617 is the successor to the Snapdragon 615 processor and is a very capable and fast SOC.
OS, Camera, Battery Life
Since its an Android One handset it runs on the latest stock Android Marshmallow 6.0. The smartphone has got a 13 MP camera for the rear with dual LED flash. The camera is tuned according to DxO and will capture images with good quality.
