Samsung has suddenly become really aggressive in pricing after it lost the leadership to Micromax as per a recent report in the Indian market. Samsung has dropped price for its 2013 flagship model Galaxy S4 to only Rs. 17,999.
It is available on Amazon along with a special offer from Amazon of Rs. 1000 Gift card. The gift card is as good as cash discount, you can buy anything using the gift voucher from Amazon. Effectively making Samsung S4 available at Rs. 16,999.
Samsung launched the Flagship smartphone in 2013 with a hefty price tag of Rs. 41, 500 at the time of launch and after few weeks it was available for Rs. 36,000. Before the price cut it was available for Rs. 25,000 on various online portals.
Samsung has been jolted by Micromax and other players and has seen it’s smartphone market share slip, which was at one point close to 35% now has dropped to 20%.
Does it make sense to buy the Samsung Galaxy S4 at this price of Rs. 17,999, when it is a 1.5 year old model.
Let’s evaluate and check specs and competition.

Samsung built it’s flagship smartphone with really premium build quality. The Samsung S2, S3 , S4 and S5 all have been really good in terms of build quality and camera. The Samsung S4 offers a much better build quality compared to most of the smartphones in the same price range.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has an excellent Octa-core processor, FHD Display,2 GB RAM, 13 MP Camera and 3G connectivity also it will get the Android Lollipop which makes it worthy contender in this price range.
Competition is Huawei Honor 6 and Lenovo Vibe X2 which are priced at Rs. 18,000 and Rs 20,000 with more or less similar specs. Where Samsung scores higher is effective price of Rs. 17,000, flagship premium built quality, and the brand name.
I would suggest Samsung S4 is a good buy at this price. Samsung may be looking to clear the inventory before the launch of next flagship Samsung Galaxy S6 in the upcoming Mobile World Conference in March 2015. If you are looking for a Full HD 5 inch smartphone, you can certainly get the Samsung Galaxy S4.
