To recap the Google Nexus 6P is the Flagship smartphone from Google and is the elder sibling to the LG Google Nexus 5X. The Google Nexus 5X has recently dropped price and is a great bargain deal right now if you are looking for a smartphone in the price range of Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000.
The smartphone when a launched couple of months back was priced at Rs. 31,900 and we have seen a sudden price drop and is now available for Rs. 23,325 on Flipkart at the time of writing this article.
The major reason for the price drop is competition especially the OnePlus 2 and the Huawei Honor 7 which are top-selling smartphones in this price range and Google would like to compete in the near Flagship segment with aggressive pricing.
Also, the discounts are on Flipkart website not on the Google Play store, where the smartphone is still listed at it’s MRP of Rs. 31,900.

The Huawei made Google Nexus 6P is a full metal body phone with 7.3 mm thick body which is great considering the smartphone has a large 5.7-inch screen size.
The dimensions are as follows – 159.3 X 77.8 X 7.3 mm. The Google Nexus 6P is not light in weight, it weighs 178 grams; owing to the larger screen and the huge battery it houses.
The smartphone has flagship specifications with the top of the Qualcomm processor and 3 GB of LPDDR4 Ram.
It is interesting to note that Google has used the next generation of Ram which is much faster than the LPDDR3 Ram which is generally used in the smartphones coming with 3 or 4 GB of Ram.
Samsung was, however, the first one to use the LPDDR4 ram in the Samsung Galaxy S6.
The Google Nexus 6P smartphone has all metal uni-body design and is made of Aluminium alloy with a fine finish to ensure that it feels premium in hand like the HTC M One 9 smartphones.
The smartphone is manufactured by Huawei.
The Nexus 6P comes with 2 visible speakers on the front much like Moto G series and the smartphone has 3 microphones with noise cancellation.
The Google Nexus 6P will be available in 3 colors Frost White, Graphite and Aluminium.
The screen size is 5.7 inches and comes with WQHD (2560 x 1440) AMOLED display at 518 PPI. Google states that even if the Google Nexus 6P has a 5.7-inch screen size the smartphone feels like a 5.5 inch iPhone 6S Plus due to the high screen to body ratio.
The Nexus 6P screen comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to help it protect from scratches and there is a Fingerprint and smudge-resistant oleophobic coating as well on the screen.
The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (Octa-core 64-bit) processor Version 2.1 & is clocked at 2.0 GHz.

The Adreno 430 GPU accompanies the processor to make the gaming experience on the smartphone flawless.
Readers might be aware it is the same processor that comes with the OnePlus 2 smartphone.
The Ram is 3 GB LPDDR4 as I have mentioned above and is sufficient to drive Android 6.0 Marshmallow the latest version of the Google OS.
The smartphone comes in different storage variants starting with 32 GB, 64 GB and the 128 GB version, there is no option to increase the storage using a micro-sd card.
The rear camera has a 12.3 Megapixel Sony Sensor, with a very large 1.55 µm pixels and the aperture size is f/2.0.
The rear camera comes with Dual led flash and an IR Laser assisted Auto-focus which can focus on images very quickly. The camera is capable of recording 4K (30 fps) video capture.
Google claims that the Camera on the Nexus 6P is much better to take low light images compared to the iPhone 6s Plus camera in the same conditions.
Here is an image that was shared by Google during the presentation by the Google Vice President. The last bottom image shows that Nexus 6P has better low light imaging even compared to the iPhone 6s Plus.
The front camera on the smartphone is an 8 Megapixel shooter with 1.4 µm pixels and a f/2.4 aperture size.
Other than taking incredible selfies the smartphone can capture HD video capture (30 fps) with the front camera.
USB Type C
The Google Nexus 6P is a single nano sim smartphone which comes with a reversible USB Type C port which also works with the Android Pay to make it more secure.
The smartphone has a Fingerprint sensor at the back of the device which as per Google is really fast and responsive and has an inbuilt learning algorithm which makes it learn the fingerprint patterns.
Intuitive learning helps in faster fingerprint recognition in future.
The smartphone has 4G LTE connectivity with Cat 6.0 support for faster data transmission. The Google Nexus 6P has support for the Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2×2 MIMO, dual-band (2.4 GHz, 5.0 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 and the NFC.
The Google Nexus 6P has a 3,450 mAh battery capacity which is one of the reasons for the 178 grams weight. The smartphone charges twice as fast compared to the Apple iPhone 6s as per the Google VP.
Fast charging allows up to 7 hours of use from only 10 minutes of charging- as per Google data.
Verdict – Should you buy the Google Nexus 6P?
This is the tricky part, if you love stock Android experience there is nobody better in business than Google itself. Pricing is also attractive.
The smartphone is large screen with 5.7 inches size and on a bit heavier side. Though much better than the previous Gen Nexus 6 which came with a 6.0-inch screen size. The camera bulge may not appeal to everyone other than that there are not too many low points.
Offers great performance with the Qualcomm top of the line processor and 3 GB RAM.
Definitely a good camera compared to the previous generations and a much-improved battery life with Android Marshmallow optimizations.
Overall the smartphone looks great We give the new Google Nexus 6P a thumbs up from Candytech based on the initial impression.
