The Huawei Honor 8 Pro will be available in midnight blue and Mid-night black color variants in the Indian market. The gold color is not available for sale.
The Huawei Honor 8 PRO may not get the hype that OnePlus 5 has got, but Huawei is pitching it against the OnePlus 5. And there are plenty of positive things about the Huawei Honor 8 Pro, which can make you think twice before actually purchasing the One Plus 5.
First of all, you will notice that the smartphone is very sleek; it measures just 6.97 mm even thinner than the iPhone 7 Plus, or the OnePlus 5 (7.3 mm).
The smartphone comes with a premium metallic body and looks similar to the Huawei P10.
Further, it runs on the Hi-silicon Kirin 960 Octa-Core processor clocked at 2.4 GHz for the faster cores, and the slower cores run at 1.8 GHz.
Noticeably, the Kirin 960 is not a match for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 but is no slouch when it comes to performance.
Huawei P10 (Kirin 960) scored close to 1.15 lakh score on Antutu benchmark, and 1900 on Geekbench single-core test, and 6000 on the multi-core test.
Besides, the processor is coupled with the Mali G71 MP8 GPU for taking care of gaming and graphics-intensive tasks. Also, the GPU has support for the Vulkan API for enhanced performance in games.
Additionally, the Honor 8 Pro comes with 128 GB of internal storage that is expandable with a micro-sd card. There is 6 GB RAM to make sure nothing lags on this flagship device.
The major upgrade that the Huawei Honor 8 Pro has in comparison to the OnePlus 5, is the 5.7 Inches LTPS IPS LCD display that comes with 2560*1440P Quad HD resolution. In contrast, to the 1080P resolution display on the OnePlus 5.
Further, the Honor 8 Pro display has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and offers 74% screen to body ratio.
Also, the mobile sports an ultra-fast fingerprint scanner at the back
Another highlight of the Huawei Honor 8 Pro is the Dual rear camera (12 MP + 12 MP). Cameras are better in comparison to old Honor 8, and comes with new improved imaging capabilities.
Further, the Dual rear camera comes with a Monochromatic lens that captures the image in black and white with all the details. Additionally, as mentioned, it has a secondary lens that captures the second image with color details accurately.
Then the image signal processor merges both the images and the final image is created.
Notably, Huawei has been the pioneer with the Dual camera lens system for smartphones. They are one of the earliest companies to launch Dual camera mobiles.
For video enthusiasts, the Huawei Honor 8 Pro supports 4K Ultra HD videos. It even has a special algorithm to compress the videos thereby, freeing storage on your mobile. However, the smartphone camera lacks the Optical Image Stabilization that is a must for taking smooth handheld videos.
Additionally, it comes with an exciting cardboard VR retail box that you can use a VR headset. There is even a Jaunt VR App to improve the VR experience.
Huawei has added the latest Android Nougat 7.0 OS along with the EMUI 5.1 for a better user experience.
Notably, the thin mobile packs a rather large 4000 mAH battery that Huawei claims can last upto 2 days. Also, there is fast charging support.
For connectivity, it has the USB Type-C port, and there is even a 3.5 mm jack at the bottom. It is always good to have the headphone jack.
Lastly, it has the Dual sim support along with 4G LTE/VOLTE.
The Honor 8 PRO comes at an aggressive price in India, for the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage – Rs. 29,999. In comparison the price of OnePlus 5 (Rs. 32999) (6 GB RAM and 64 GB Storage) is higher by Rs. 3000.
Notably, there is more storage on the Huawei Honor 8 PRO that can make the Honor more attractive to many.
As per recent reports, there is a jelly-scrolling effect display issue on Oneplus 5 that may dampen the mood for some of the fans.
Lastly, Huawei has kept the price aggressive to prevent Oneplus to take the lead in the premium segment.
Also, Huawei has also dropped the Price for Honor 8 and launched the Honor 8 Lite in India.
