Honor has released a teaser image on Weibo of their upcoming new smartphone. Judging by that image, its evident that they’re about to release Honor V9 on 21st Feb 2017 in Beijing.
The image also shows Sun Yang, a former Olympic Gold medalist swimmer from China, as the brand ambassador for the Honor V9. There’s also something written in Chinese, which when translated means, “Glory V9 & Sun Yang, fight speed, I only serve #V9 Glory.”
Notably, the Huawei Honor V8 is a different smartphone in comparison to the Huawei Honor 8 that was launched in India. The Honor V8 is a 5.7-inch device and was released in China last year. You can read More about the Honor 8 and the Honor V8.
The release date is surprisingly sooner than the release of its predecessor Honor V8. It’s also a week before the grand MWC (Mobile World Congress) event.
Exactly one month before the announced release date of the upcoming V9, there were some leaks about 2 Honor devices passing the TENAA certification. Interestingly, Honor V9 was one of them.
Huawei Honor V9
The leaks showcased the overall design of the V9. The Huawei Honor V9 hasn’t drifted away from the design language of the V8. It sports a metal body with dual rear camera setup, placed horizontally, similar to Honor 8.
The Honor V9 also has a circular fingerprint sensor accompanying the dual camera sensors at the back.
This time there’s no glass strip to cover the dual sensors, like the one found on Huawei’s P9 and P9 Plus. Instead, it’s a complete metal unibody design with antenna lines running across the top and bottom sides.
The front sports relatively thick top and bottom bezels, with Honor branding at the chin. It’ll have on-screen navigation buttons like all the Honor smartphones.
According to the listing of the TENAA certification the V9 sports a 5.7 inch Quad HD display. The phone will run an Octa-core SOC clocked at 2.4 GHz. The processor is coupled with 4 GB/ 6 GB of RAM variants with 64 GB/ 128 GB storage options respectively.
The V9 would flaunt 12 MP+ 2 MP dual rear camera setup. Which seems to be similar to the one found on inexpensive Honor 6X.
Although, it’s somewhat of a downgrade from the V8’s dual 12 MP sensors. This time again there’s no Leica branding for the camera which might be upsetting for many fans.
The V8 also lacked those Leica sensors but it had one extra feature up its sleeve, 3D picture mode. The dual sensors helped in capturing the depth of field, creating a picture which can be viewed with a viewpoint but cannot be scrolled to 360°.
The front will feature an 8 MP selfie shooter. The Honor V8 was a sleek device, measuring at 7.8 mm thickness.
This time around Honor is able to pack in huge 3900 mAH battery in an even sleeker frame measuring only at 6.9 mm in thickness. The Huawei Honor V9 will be shipped with Android Nougat 7.0 and EMUI 5.0 skin on top.
There’s also a good chance of Honor not releasing the V9 in India as its predecessor V8 never was made available in the Indian market.
The leaks also indicate a price tag of 2699 Yuan (approx Rs 27,000). The price and details are yet not official hence, one has to take these leaks with a grain of salt and wait for the official release on 21st Feb. That will give us more in-depth information about the Huawei Honor V9.
Huawei has also recently unveiled the Huawei Honor Magic. The Honor magic is an excellent looking mobile with a very futuristic design, rarely seen on anything else in the market.
Also, Huawei recently launched the Huawei V10 in India.
