To strengthen mid-range portfolio, HTC has launched the Desire 830 smartphone in Taiwan for a price tag of $310 (or Rs. 21,000). It is the successor to the Desire 820 smartphone.
HTC has previously launched the HTC 10 (flagship smartphone) and the HTC One S9 in the upper Midrange.
The Desire 830 comes with the signature HTC premium poly-plastic finish and will be available in vibrant Red and blue colors.
It boasts of a 5.5-inch Full HD display, and the phone even comes with dual front-facing stereo speakers with HTC’s boom sound technology.
HTC has lately changed the boom sound speaker design, and it carries a more modern unconventional look.
Powering the Desire 30 is the MediaTek Helio X10 processor clocked @ 1.5 GHz. The Helio X10 comes in many devices like the LE 1S. HTC has downclocked the processor, which on LE 1S has a core clock speed of 2.2 GHz.
A possible reason could be better heat management in the Desire 830.
Additionally, there is 3 GB of Ram which is desirable on a smartphone in this range.
On the software front, it runs Android Marshmallow customized with HTC’s Sense UI.
For storage, there is plenty of 32 GB internal space, and a micro-SD slot is provided to increase it to 128 GB.
The Key highlight of the smartphone, however, is the 13 MP primary camera having the aperture size of F/2.0 and the exquisite optical image stabilization.
OIS is usually a feature meant for very high-end smartphone camera devices like the Samsung S7 or HTC 10; it is even missing on the iPhone 6s.
It makes the Desire 830, a fantastic camera smartphone in the mid-range price table. We will wait for some more reviews to flow before can conclude on the prowess of HTC Desire 830.
The front-facing camera uses 4 Ultrapixels sensors which according to HTC will provide better low light imaging with detailed images.
The smartphone’s battery is 2800 mAh, and on the connectivity side, it includes 4G and dual sim slot.
When comparing to its predecessor (Desire 820), the Desire 830 has improvements in the areas like screen resolution, more RAM and storage space.
The processor is much better in Desire 830 as compared to the Snapdragon 615 in the Desire 820 smartphone.
The smartphone is available so far in Taiwan only, and there is no information on the global availability.
HTC may launch the smartphone in India in May or June 2016. We are still waiting for the HTC 10 to launch in India which I think is quite late as it almost two months since Samsung S7 got launched at has reaped the benefits of being the first mover in the market.
In the fiercely competitive smartphone market, HTC and LG may have to look at early to market strategy if they wish to give H.C Hong* some sleepless nights.
