Huawei Y9 (2019) launches in India for Rs. 15,990

Updated – 14/1/2019 – Huawei is on a launch spree and this is the third phone that the brand is launching in this month.

Previously, Huawei has announced the launch of Honor 10 Lite and the Honor View 20 in India and now the Y9 (2019) has gone on sale on Amazon India.

Huawei has pretty similar offerings around 15k – Honor 8X, Honor 10 Lite, and the Honor Y9.

In fact, all of these phones have the same processor Kirin 710 and comes with same user experience and nearly the same camera capabilities.

Y9 (2019)

Huawei could have launched one model and kept the pricing competitive to have the maximum share or probably should have launched something better for the slightly affordable price range of 10-12k.

Nevertheless, the Y9 (2019) comes with Quad-Cameras (2 at the back and 2 at the front) apart from having a notch display and a massive 4000 mAH capacity battery.

The Y9 (2019) is available for purchase exclusively from Amazon India starting 15th January 2019.

The phone comes in blue and black color options, and the brand is offering Boat Rockerz Bluetooth Headphones worth Rs. 2990 free, as a promotional offer.

Key Specs and Details – Huawei Y9 (2019)

The phone comes with a 6.5 Inch FHD+ Display with (2340*1080) pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

The back side is made of polyplastic and comes with a glossy finish similar to several phones from Oppo and Vivo.

Powering the device is the Octa-Core Kirin 710 Processor and there is 4 GB DDR4 Ram along with 64 GB of internal storage.

The storage is expandable upto 256 GB using the dedicated micro-sd card slot.

The phone runs on the Android Oreo 8.1 along with the EMUI 8.2 version. It is a bit of shame that the phone doesn’t come with the EMUI 9.0 and Android 9.0 Pie, out of the box.

However, Huawei will most likely update the software to the latest version in the coming weeks.

Cameras – AI Powered Quad Cameras

Huawei is boasting of Dual rear and Dual front cameras on the Y9 (2019). The device comes with a 13 MP (f/1.8 aperture) and a 2 MP depth-sensing camera at the back.

Whereas, the front side has a 16 Megapixel(f/2.0 aperture & 2 Micron pixel) main camera along with a secondary 2MP shooter.

The AI backed camera can identify 500 different scene types and can apply optimizations in real-time to enhance the images. The AI optimizations work not only for the rear cameras but also for the front selfie cameras.

Other Specs and Features

The Y9 (2019) comes with micro-USB port instead of the USB type C port seen on several phones in this price range. It is a shame that we are still not able to see a majority of the mid-range phones with the latest connectivity port.

The phone has a massive 4000 mAH capacity battery that is sufficient to easily work all day without the need for a charge. It is not clear if Huawei is offering fast charging support with the Y9 (2019) or is supplying a fast charger in the box.

Furthermore, it comes with face unlocking support as well as has a fingerprint scanner at the back side.

Lastly, the phone has Dual Sim 4G VOLTE support and measures 8.1 mm in thickness.

The Huawei Y9 is specs loaded but seems a little expensive, Huawei could have kept the price close to Rs. 13,999 to compete with the Redmi Note 6 Pro and the Realme 2 Pro.
