It will be interesting to see the performance gain that Broadwell brings to the gaming world. If rumors and leaks are to be believed than we may see a minor increase in performance Vs Haswell processors. I would take this information with a pinch of salt and wait for the real benchmarks to understand the performance differential.

Intel is likely to start shipping the Broadwell LGA processor units to many OEM’s who have in turn started listing the Pre-built PC’s with Intel Broadwell processors. Intel has not launched the Desktop Broadwell processors officially yet.

The New Intel Broadwell processors have a different nomenclature compared to what we have currently with the Intel Processor series.

The unlocked Broadwell processors will have the C suffix instead of the “ K “ we have in the Haswell, The Intel Broadwell Core i5-5675 and Core i7-5775 will have TDP of exactly 65W. Intel already have launched the 5th Generation processors for mobile devices, laptops and tablets Broadwell Y or the Core M , Broadwell-HQ and Broadwell-U.

The Intel Core M laptops don’t need a fan for cooling like the traditional Laptops which have a Cooling Fan.  The Mac book 2015 uses the Intel Core M processor.

The Broadwell processors utilize the LGA 1150 socket and will be compatible with Intel’s Z97 boards however you may have to check with the board manufacturers for any BIOS update required to support the latest generation of Intel Processors.

One of the major advancement that we will see with the Broadwell is the inclusion of eDRAM chip to boost the integrated Iris Pro 6200 graphics. It is a form of HBM basically upto 128 MB of ERAM which can make the Onboard graphics much superior to the Haswell processors.  The TDP of the new Broadwell processors is insanely low at 65 watts in comparison of Haswell 4790K which has a TDP of 88 watts.

Intel 6th Gen Processor’s Skylake

Also we may see a major update to Intel desktop processors likely in the end of 2015 or H1 of 2016 when the Intel Skylake processors arrive. They will also use the same 14 nm process but will bring in major performance updates to the Haswell.

They will be known as the Intel 6th gen processors and will support the LGA 1151 socket. The 6th Gen intel processors are likely to have a nomenclature – Core i5 6000 and Core i7 6000 and will support the DDR4 RAM which is currently supported by the Intel Haswell E processors along with the X99 motherboards. They are very expensive at this stage.

We may see more of DDR4 RAM builds entering the main stream consumer market with the launch of Skylake processors.
