A Big Win For Flipkart – The iPhone Deal
Flipkart couple of days back announced that they have partnered with Apple to sell the smartphones directly. iPhone was earlier sold by Infibeam.com another major online seller and was the exclusive partner to sell the iPhone in India. Flipkart and Amazon had third party sellers who are selling the smartphone on their platform.
But now Flipkart will be able to directly source and sell the smartphone on their platform. However it is yet not clear if the older iPhone models will be sourced directly from Apple or will continue as it is.
And it is seen as a big victory over Amazon which have been doing great as far as attracting brands for exclusive smartphone sales. Flipkart also is more preferred by Samsung compared to Amazon as most new Samsung smartphones are launched on Flipkart (to name afew – Samsung S7 and S7 Edge , A9 Pro, J7 2016 and recent J7 Prime and On8 ).
It seems like a good victory for Flipkart in the battle for dominance in the Indian e-commerce market VS Amazon. Recently there is also a news that Walmart may invest in Flipkart and further strengthen their position in the home market.
Sachin Bansal is not letting Mr Bezos any space in the Indian E-commerce space and hopefully will elude them from acquiring the top spot in near foreseeable future.
