JIO Phone is a Game Changer in the Low-Cost Feature Phone Market
Jio phone has become the new rage for the budget feature phone segment in the Indian market. Moreover, it has taken over the market leader position from HMD Global (Nokia) in the future phone market, as per the latest report published by IDC.
Jio phone has been selling well in the price conscious Indian market due to special plans that JIO is offering for the JIO phone buyers (Check Rs. 49 plan).
The price for the JIO phone is still Rs. 1500 and you can buy it online as well as from any Reliance Digital Store but the real benefit is getting unlimited calls and data at Rs. 49 for the phone users which makes it an incredibly attractive deal for the buyers.
Coming to the JIO Phone sales it has around 15% of the market share. While top selling Nokia phone (Nokia 105) has 7% followed by 2% of ITEL IT2130 and iTel 2180 and 1% of iTEL ITS231.
Top 5 Feature Phone Models in India
Clearly, JIO phone is selling much higher in comparison to the phones from other brands and Indian brands such as Micromax, Xolo, Lava or Karbonn are not even there in the top contenders.
Driven by the higher demand for 4G data the JIO phone is taking the lead with many new users looking forward to using more data. Nokia has also launched the Nokia 8810 back at the MWC but is yet not launched in the Indian market.
Besides, Micromax has launched the 4G Volte feature phone Micromax Bharat 1 that also competes with the JIO phone in the market.
JIO Phone Market Share
Reliance JIO has 15% of the total shipment market share making it the market leader slightly ahead of Nokia which has 14% market share. Notably, above we have shared which are the top models market share and the image below shows overall market share of the brand in the feature phone segment.
iTel is also a dominant force in the feature phone market and slowly expanding its base in the smartphone market. We even recently reviewed the iTel S42, an ambitious budget mobile from the brand. Samsung is the biggest loser in the feature phone market and was an earlier market leader.
Samsung now has 6% market share while Tecno (Chinese mobile maker) occupies the 5th spot in the feature phone market.
Additionally, as the JIO phone comes with the KaiOS which is continuously working on adding more features such as support for Facebook, Google Assistant, and Maps to make the feature phones more useful for the buyers.
There are still lots of people who find it easy to understand and use a feature phone as they are not comfortable in reading on a smartphone. Comparatively a feature phone offers a straightforward way to make calls and use the basic features.
Also, in case you missed the last update Reliance, JIO has now over 200 Million Subscribers (20 Crore) in the Indian market. This is seen as a big milestone for the brand as it may become number 3 telecom company in the coming days ahead of Idea Cellular.
