Karbonn has a very strong portfolio in the budget segment and have released yet another set of smartphones in the market after their launch of budget phone Karbonn L55 Quattro. The all new fashion eye smartphones aka Karbonn Fashion eye and Karbonn Fashion Eye 2.0 are the budget friendly phones for the lower end market priced aggressively at Rs. 5,490 and Rs. 6,490.
The main selling point of the smartphones are the AI-enabled fashion search feature, which has been introduced in partnership with Staqu.
They are pre-loaded with a fashion app ’ that lets users search for an outfit by clicking its picture. The AI is designed in such a way that the app will automatically recognize the print, patterns and colors of the outfit to give results accordingly. The App can also compare products prices online and pick up the best deal for the users.
Beyond the Visual Search App, The Karbonn Fashion Eye sports is a 5 inch (1280X720) HD IPS screen with 2.5D curved glass on top. The 2.5D curve glass makes the smartphone look more appealing and is usually a feature for higher end mobiles.
The phone is powered by a Quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor clocked at 1.3 Ghz clubbed with 1 GB of RAM. It features 8 GB of internal storage and can further be expanded upto 32 Gb storage.
It features an 8 Mp Auto-focus rear camera with led flash and surprisingly it can record at 1080 p. Along with a strange 3.2Mp front shooter but misses out on front flash, although can’t really ask for much at this price point.
Sadly the phone has non illuminated off screen navigation buttons at the front and a speaker placed at the back. It runs on 2000 mAh battery pack which may not last all day for heavy users.
The Fashion Eye 2.0 version is different only in the memory department. As the former provides 8 GB storage with 1 GB of RAM, the later 2.0 version gets a boost with 16 GB of inbuilt memory along with 2 GB of RAM.
Both the phones come with basic connectivity options and sensor like 3G HSPA+ / 2G, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, A-GPS, Wi-Fi dual-band, FM radio. Egregiously they run on dated Android Lollipop 5.1 and misses out on big buying factor – 4G connectivity.
Fashion Eye and Fashion Eye 2.0 are thin and light weight measuring at 145 x 72 x 8mm and weighing at 141 g.
Judging by the current market options and the price factors of both the variables, it is likely that Fashion Eye will face competition from Micromax Canvas Spark 3, Lava P7, Intex Cloud Jewel and mainly Intex Cloud String HD (cheapest fingerprint scanner smartphone).
The Fashion Eye 2.0 is likely to face competition from Reliance LYF Wind 5, Micromax Unite 4, Intex Aqua Secure.
