Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact

Sony has launched the most powerful compact phone in the world the “Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact “. The smartphone was launched along with the Flagship Sony Xperia XZ1 at the ongoing IFA 2017. The Sony Xperia XZ1 comes with top of the line specs in a very compact body.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Most Powerful Small Phone in the World

While most of the other smartphone manufacturers have already given up on the idea of a powerful small phone which actually a lot of people may want to buy, Sony is still there to meet that need. Notably, Apple iPhone SE is the other choice that people have if they are looking for a great compact mobile with functionality and features found on larger phones.

Display and Performance

The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact comes with a 4.6 Inch Display with HD resolution and has Sony technologies like triluminous & mobile X-Reality engine to make the visuals much better. The display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection but it does not have 2.5D curved glass which is now common in most budget phones.

The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact comes with an HD display with 1280*720 pixels, though it is a very premium phone, Sony could have at least offered a Full HD display for this exquisite device.

The Smartphone is one of the most powerful compact phones in the world as it is powered by the cutting edge Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and has Adreno 540 GPU to make sure it can handle any Android game or task with ease.

The smartphone also has 4 GB of Ram and comes with 32 GB of internal storage, with Micro-sd card support upto 256 GB.

Design

The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact looks like a smaller version of the Xperia XZ1 or the Xperia XZ, I have already ranted a lot about how the XZ1 has a boring design and the same applies to the XZ1 compact also. Sony has not changed the design for the XZ series and they look like the Sony Z3 which is more than 4 years old now.

The smartphone comes with 9.3 mm thickness and also weighs around 143 grams. The XZ1 compact has metallic build and has large top and bottom bezel.

Camera

The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact comes with all the goodness of camera features that we have in the larger Sony devices like the Xperia XZ1 and the Xperia XZ premium.

The smartphone comes with a 19 Megapixel rear camera which has some of the futuristic features like motion eye tracking and the crazy 960 FPS slow motion.

The camera can also capture 3D images by moving around a subject and clicking multiple images, then the Sony camera stitches them together and creates a new unique 3D image.

Sony Xperia XZ1

Sony has unveiled it’s new high-end smartphone called as the Sony Xperia XZ1, at the IFA 2017.

The Sony Xperia XZ1 is the successor to the Xperia XZ or the Xperia XZs. The smartphone comes with a bland design from the past and do not try hard to distinguish from the earlier Sony smartphones.

Sony Xperia XZ1 launched With Boring Design and Futuristic Camera

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium which is the Flagship phone from Sony comes with a similar design and so does the XZ. The Sony XZ premium is priced at R. 59,999 or $900 in the US.

Now Sony has launched the XZ1 with a similar camera but will be $200 cheaper, we can expect it to be priced at Rs. 45,000 in India when it goes on sale.

The major difference between the new XZ1 and the Sony XZ Premium is the display resolution, the XZ Premium comes with 4K display with 3840*2160 resolution while the XZ 1 comes with a Full HD display.

While everyone else is offering a Quad HD or QHD+ display Sony is saying either take the FHD or go for the ultimate 4K, which are both not the perfect choices for many buyers.

The Sony XZ Premium or XZ or the XZ1 all look the same and they are even close to 3 years old Sony Z5 and Z4 models in terms of design.

While the Samsung, LG and iPhone have moved from older design to new, Sony is still stuck in the past.

While most smartphone manufacturers are jumping to 18:9 design with minimal bezels at the front Sony XZ1 still come with terrifyingly big bezels.

Sony Xperia XZ1

Though the smartphone is made of metal and comes with a boxy design, it just looks outdated compared to the Note 8 or LG V30.

Although Sony has some tricks up its sleeve when it comes to the camera. The Sony Xperia XZ1 comes with a 19 Megapixel rear camera similar to the XZ1 premium.

It can record insane 960 FPS Slow motion which is way too slow even compared to the 240 FPS Slow-mo on an iPhone 7 Plus.

But really when was the last time you recorded a slow-motion video. If that is not futuristic, it also promises that you can capture 3D images using the rear camera by moving around a subject and share it to a 3D printer or can also use it to share on social media.

Sony Xperia XZ1

The camera also comes with predictive focus shots which can capture images ahead you pressing the button to click them, it helps to capture special moments so you don’t miss it.

One thing which is really impressive about the Sony Xperia XZ1 camera is that it can click shots much faster almost at 10 FPS like the Sony Alpha cameras. There is no lag between one shot and the other and is an excellent feature for clicking sports and moving kids.

The smartphone comes with a 13 Megapixel front selfie camera to click some detailed shots.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Specs and other features

The Sony Xperia XZ1 comes with a 5.2 Inch Full HD Display and has TRILUMINOS, X-Reality technologies along with support for HDR display features.  The display on the XZ1 has the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

The colour quality is also incredible on the Sony XZ1 as it comes with 138% sRGB.

The smartphone also comes with the cutting edge Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 2.35 GHz and also has the Adreno 540 GPU for gaming and multimedia.

The smartphone also has 4 GB of Ram and 64 GB of internal storage which can be further expanded using the micro-sd card.

The XZ1 will be available in Black, Warm Silver, Moonlit Blue and Venus Pink colours.

Additionally, it comes with IP68 /65 rating which makes it water and dustproof. The smartphone comes with USB Type C port, also has a headphone jack.

The XZ1 comes with 2700 mAH capacity battery and has Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support and Qnovo charging technology to enhance the battery life operation.

Moreover, the smartphone will run on the latest Android Oreo 8.0 from Google and will offer the best user experience. Great Job Sony for bringing the latest OS ahead of everyone.

The smartphone comes with a Fingerprint scanner at the side. (Though it was earlier believed that the smartphone does not have a fingerprint scanner).

Sony has not forgotten one of its key strengths from the old Walkman days, a better sound quality. The XZ1 also comes with Clear Audio+ and DSEE HX to enhance the user experience while listening to music.

Sony XZ1 is an interesting phone with some pros and cons as I have stated above, it may appeal to Sony fans but will it able to attract Apple, Google or Samsung loyalists.

Top Features and Specs Details – XZ Premium

For starters, the XZ Premium is the top of the line mobile from Japanese technology conglomerate and comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor along with 4 GB of Ram.

The design is not significantly different in comparison to the Sony Xperia XZs which was launched in India last month.  Noticeably, there is still a large bezel at the front side which is nothing like the new LG G6 and Samsung S8.

Dear Sony, we need a more futuristic design from a flagship phone.

The mobile comes with a glass design with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protecting both the sides. The design is not the reason why you buy a Sony phone, you buy it for the camera.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

Camera Details – Sony XZ Premium

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium comes one of the best cameras you can get from the company which specializes in optics.  The Sony Xperia XZ Premium comes with an exceptional camera with 19 MP resolution with a new Motion Eye Camera technology and 1/2.3” Exmor RS™ lens.

The camera can record at 960 FPS which is super slow motion video, which is not possible with any other smartphone. There is also something Sony Calls predictive focus” which allows capturing 4 shots before you even press the click button and gives you the best possible final shot.

Also, there is a triple focus technology and anti-distortion shutter which makes every shot a perfect shot. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium also offers a much improved 13 Megapixel front camera for clicking superb selfies.

Sony has brought it’s A game as far as camera technology goes for the Xperia XZ Premium.

As per the DXO mark Score, (scores 87 points) the Sony XZ premium does not have a great camera and even several independent reviewers share a similar conclusion.

In fact, the phone lacks the clarity and image quality offered by Samsung S8, Google Pixel 2 or the iPhone X.

4K Display

Insanely, it comes with 5.5 Inch 4K (3840*2160) pixels resolution with a crazy 801 PPi.

This is the highest resolution display on any phone. Additionally,  it comes with Sony technologies to make it even more incredible. The display has TRILUMINOS™ Display for mobile & X-Reality™ for mobile.

Other Features

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium offers 64 GB of internal storage and that can be expanded using a micro-sd card.

The smartphone comes with Android Nougat 7.1, and also has IP 65 / IP68 Water and dust resistance. The smartphone comes with support for 4G VOLTE (CAT-16), along with USB Type C and NFC.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium comes with 3230 mAH capacity battery and has support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

Also, it boasts of the latest Bluetooth 5.0 and for high-resolution audio comes with a dedicated LDAC.

It is pretty heavy, weighing 191 grams. However, has a thickness of 7.9 mm which is not too high.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is a very exquisite, not meant for everyone and probably will not excite too many buyers who are more lured to buy the Samsung S8 or the LG G6.

Though SONY has a cult following in the country who would love this power-packed, shutterbugs delight deal from Sony.
