Let’s look at some of the new phones launched by Micromax in India in 2018 and late 2017.
Micromax Canvas 2 Plus Offers Long Battery life and Bezel-less Display
After a long interval, Micromax has finally launched a new mobile in the market. The latest offering from the Indian Brand is called Micromax Canvas 2 Plus.
The company has seen a major change in the last 3 years from nearly becoming a market leader to being a small player in the fiercely competitive Indian market. In 2014, Micromax was trailing Samsung and was gunning for the number 1 spot.
All changed as the new Chinese brands invaded the Indian market and now dominate the mobile arena.
Nevertheless, Micromax is not giving up and has launched yet another budget phone that costs same (Rs. 8,999) as the Oppo RealME 1.
Micromax Canvas 2 Key Details
Design and Display
The new Canvas 2 comes with a design, that is all too similar now. A mix of iPhone X and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. There is a single rear camera at the back but aligned vertically. Also, there is a circular fingerprint scanner present on the back side for quick unlocking.
The front side is neat, without any buttons, and comes with the modern 18:9 aspect ratio screen. The phone has a 5.7 Inches HD+ display, that comes with (1440*720 pixels resolution), 269 PPI.
The display even has the curved 2.5D curve glass coating.
There is an unspecified Quad-Core processor with a maximum clock speed of 1.3 GHz powering the device. When the brands don’t share the processor name, it is usually useless, and we are expecting the same from the Micromax too.
There is 3 GB ram and 32 GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128 GB using the micro-sd card slot. The phone boots Android Nougat 7.1 which is quite dated, and we expect companies to have the Oreo in the latest phones.
There is a 13 Megapixel rear camera that has a 1.12-micron sensor and comes with 80-degree wide lens. At the front, there is an 8 Megapixel front selfie camera that is similar to the Oppo RealMe 1 as far as the MP count is concerned.
The Canvas 2 plus also offers a face-unlocking feature which is becoming common in most modern budget phones but is not as good as the fingerprint reader in terms of experience and security.
Lastly, the mobile comes with a large 4000 mAH capacity battery which is sufficient to last all day considering the screen size and resolution. Also, it offers basic connectivity options such as 4G VOLTE, Dual Sim, WIFI, and Bluetooth.
The phone will be available in the Jet Black as well as Matte Black options to purchase across the country in physical retail stores.

To keep the multitasking experience fluid, the Micromax Canvas Infinity comes with 3 GB of Ram that is more than sufficient for lag-free operation.
Also, the mobile comes with the latest Android Nougat 7.1 and, Micromax is even saying that they will get the latest Android Oreo update for the Canvas Infinity.
Powering the smartphone is a 2900 mAH capacity battery that seems low considering it comes with a large 5.7-inch display. However, the screen and the processor are not battery hogs, it will be sufficient for all day usage.

Monopoly is always bad.
Also, Micromax is looking positive, with new smartphone launches like the Yu Yunique 2, Yureka black, and the Dual camera Evok Dual Note to capture back some market share lost to rival Xiaomi.

Micromax Dual 5 Pros & Cons Worth 25K? – Initial Thoughts
Micromax has finally been able to launch a new smartphone which comes with Dual rear Camera. It is there the first attempt at the Dual Camera technology and the new smartphone is called Dual 5.
The new Micromax smartphone comes with a metallic build, no physical home button. There is a fingerprint scanner at the back of the device below the Dual cameras.
There are 2 Dual Rear cameras at the back of the device which comes with a Sony 13 Megapixel sensor with a f/1.8 aperture lens. The lens has got larger pixels with a size of 1.12u for improved low light performance.
There is one monochromatic camera and the other one captures colors and the image signal processor mix both the images to produce a final output, similar tech when compared to Huawei phones.
There is a Dual LED Flash below the rear camera’s and the rear camera is also capable of recording 4K videos.
The front selfie camera also looks generous with a 13 Mega Pixel camera and a dedicated flash for clicking selfies. The front camera is also capable of recording 1080P videos. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz. The mobile comes with 4 GB of RAM.
There is also a secondary processor CC EAL 5 which works as a security chip and store all the details like a fingerprint scanner and password to make the device have superior military grade security.
A lot of people don’t need military grade security but need a great smartphone at an affordable price.
The Micromax Dual 5 comes with Super AMOLED Display and a 5.5 Inch screen. The display panel has Full HD resolution(1920*1080) pixels with 401 PPI. There is also 2.5 D Curve glass cover and Corning Gorilla Glass 3.0 protective coating.
The Dual 5 has 128 GB of internal storage which can be further expanded with the use of hybrid sim slot. The smartphone has Dual Sim Support and also has connectivity options like 4G LTE as well as 3G / 2G. The
Micromax Dual 5 runs on the dated Android Marshmallow 6.0 and the company is also promising an Android Nougat update within a month. Beware of such promises.
The Micromax Dual 5 comes with 3200 mAH capacity battery. There is USB TYPE C port at the bottom of the device for connectivity and fast charging. It supports Quick Charge 3.0 the gold standard for fast charging.
Pros Cons and Our Initial Thoughts
While we will have to wait for our verdict till we test the device here are some initial thoughts. Let me first start with the positives – Dual Cameras + 13 MP front selfie camera looks good but will need testing to see if they perform as most phones in the 20K to 30K Price range.
Some more pros – 128 GB storage and Super AMOLED Display, USB type C, Fast charging and of course the Military grade security.
Let’s talk about the Cons
25K Price – Micromax has never sold anything as expensive as that – it is not their target segment. People loved the affordable Micromax phones back when brands like Xiaomi and Lenovo were not there. But high-end buyers want a lot of reliability, Trust, Quality, after sales service and a premium title when they spend that kind of money on phones.
Micromax has not shown any of that in the past, At least not from my personal experience, especially with the after sales support.
Copy of Qiku 360 Q5 – Now this is a big deal. Keeping the same design and same specs as the Chinese Qiku 360 Q5, it looks like Micromax is not even making an effort to modify the Chinese designs.
Some of the other Cons apart from a wrong segment include quite dated Android Marshmallow, could have used a Snapdragon 820 or 821 if they were priced at 25K.
I will not say it is very expensive. Had the same specs phone would have come from a brand like Oppo or Samsung or Gionee it would not have been labeled as exorbitantly expensive.
Micromax could have priced it at 18K if they wanted to sell some volumes. At this price, it is going to be difficult for a re-branded device.
