Yu Yunicorn launched on Flipkart Price Rs 12999
Yu series has been a success for Micromax and Rahul Sharma (CEO Yu Brand), and the series has been more successful for creating hype for every smartphone they have launched.
The recently launched Yu Yureka Note with a colossal display (6 inches) priced at Rs. 13,499 in the Indian market. Today they have launched the all-new Yunicorn, with a metallic body and a 2.5D glass display.
The naming is centered around the word Yu for the series– Yutopia, Yunique, Yuphoria, Yureka, and Yunicorn, will they ever run out of Yu names, I wonder.
Now Yu is back with new device Yu Yunicorn which Yu refers to as “Redefining Flagship,” probably an overstatement but the price is insanely good for the hardware specs.
The phone comes with the most popular screen size of 5.5 inches and a 1080p FHD (401ppi) display.
The Yu Yunicorn has a full metal build and has fingerprint scanner residing on the front home button.
The design looks similar to the Oppo F1 Plus from the front side and a more Meizu look from the back. The white and gold finish with metallic body and sturdy metal edge frame makes it look sharp.
But overall the design looks better and classier than some of older Yu series phones.
The main Saturn rings design around the camera module is missing as they had mentioned earlier it would be a standard design in almost all of their upcoming phones.
The phone runs on MediaTek MT6755 Helio P10 processor along with Mali-T860MP2 GPU along with whopping 4 GB RAM.
Everything is coming with 4 GB and 6 GB RAM these days, Samsung, LG, HTC will have to think big 8 GB or 10 GB soon. Sooner than they would have liked.
Storage wise also the phone doesn’t let you down as it has 32 GB inbuilt storage and can expand it up to 128 GB through micro -SD card.
The optics department also tries to give its competitors a tough fight. It sports 13 MP sensor at the back with phase detection autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash which has featured such as Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, and Panorama. It has a 5 Mega front shooter for taking cool selfies.
Egregiously, the Yu Yunicorn still has Android Lollipop with Yu 2.0 skin on top. This may not be a deal breaker as Yu has promised Marshmallow update soon for this device, but no date is confirmed.
The phone has a thickness of 8.2mm and still can house a massive 4000 mah battery which supports fast charging through USB type-C port.
It is a dual sim phone and both the Sims support 4G LTE.
It will be available in 3 color options Rush Silver, Graphite, Rush Gold.
The phone has been priced very aggressively at just ₹12,999 and will be available through the flash sale on 7th June exclusively on Flipkart. You can also get a 10% discount if you have an SBI credit or debit card on purchase of Yu Yunicorn.
Yu has said that this is only a promotional price and soon after a month the price will be hiked up to ₹14,999.
Yu Smartphones to Sell in Retail Stores
The YU smartphone brand chief Rahul Sharma has today announced that the Yu smartphones would also be available in the retail store in the near future and they are looking to have large-scale operations in the physical retail stores.
While Yu was launched with the objective of battling Xiaomi as well as Motorola in the online flash sales, now the brand is planning to have participated in the retail.
Rahul Sharma of Yu Tele venture says that they will have a 50:50 share from online and retail channel sales in the next one year.
They will not leverage the existing Micromax Distributors for sales but will appoint new distributors to focus on the Yu branded smartphones.
Xiaomi and Motorola are also showing keen interest to move to a retail + online sale model and may also expand operations in the physical retail in the coming time.
With the government intervening and creating stricter guidelines for online sellers, for discounts and offers, there are concerns about sustaining the current volumes in the e-commerce Industry.
Cutting the middleman was the path many brands preferred by partnering with the online shops, but it has irked the trader community (a more significant vote bank), and we may see some significant changes shortly for online sales too.
Yu Yureka Black vs Xiaomi Redmi 4 – The Better Choice
Yu Televentures Ltd, a subsidiary of Micromax, launched an upgraded model of the original Yu Yureka which was launched in 2015 dubbed as ‘Yu Yureka Black’.
Yu Yureka Black is priced at Rs 8,999 and it can be purchased exclusively through Flipkart from June 6. The closest rival of Yu Yureka Black is the Xiaomi Redmi 4. Xiaomi Redmi 4 was launched recently and is priced at Rs 8,999 for the 3 GB RAM version. Yu Yureka Black and Xiaomi Redmi 4 both are only available via online stores and are great budget phones.

The Snapdragon 435 is slightly better compared to the 430 but in practical usage you won’t find a performance difference.

Antutu Score – Yu Black(Snapdragon 430, 4 GB RAM) 43,900

Yureka Black and Redmi 4 both the mobiles come with 32 GB internal storage. Yureka Black can be expanded up to 64 GB while Redmi 4 can be expanded up to 128 GB via Micro-SD card.
Both the mobiles have 13 MP Rear Camera with LED Flash. As far as Selfie is concerned, Yureka Black has 8 MP Front Cam and Redmi 4 sports 5 MP Front Camera. Definitely something positive for the Selfie lovers on the Yu Black.
Yureka Black and Redmi 4 both run Android 6.0 Marshmallow with additional customization. According to the Company, Yureka Black will receive Android 7.0 Nougat in near future and Xiaomi can also roll out Nougat for the Redmi 4. On the connectivity front, both the smartphones offer faster internet with support for 4G LTE and VOLTE in India.
Redmi 4 clearly gets upper hand in terms of battery life as it comes with 4100 mAh battery juice and on the other hand, Yureka Black comes with 3000 mAh battery capacity. The Redmi 4 comes with 27% more battery capacity than the Yu Black.
