Xiaomi Redmi 8a – Specs, Price, launch date and Features

Updated – 20-Feb-2020 – Looking for an impressive smartphone, but low on budget? Do not worry as Xiaomi caters to all your needs in its new launch Redmi 8a that is a successor of Redmi7A launched in July 2019.

With so many options in the market, it can be a daunting hassle for any buyer to find a phone that does not compromise on design, performance and, at the same time, not burn a hole in their pocket.

So let’s have a closer look at the specs and features of Redmi 8A so that without wasting any time, you can buy this phone from a store nearby or online websites like Flipkart, Amazon, or Mi.com.

The Xiaomi Redmi 8A comes with 32GB internal storage and is available in two variants: 2 GB and 3 GB RAM.

  • Redmi 8a – 32 GB storage and 2 GB RAM – Rs. 6499
  • Redmi 8a – 32 GB storage and 3 GB RAM – Rs. 6999

In my opinion, it is better to spend an additional Rs. 500 and get the 3 GB Ram version for a more fluid experience. After all, you are going to use the phone for two years.

You can choose from three vibrant color options: Sunset Red, Ocean Blue, and Midnight Black.

Specs and Features

The Redmi 8a offers two Nano-sim slots (both VoLTE enabled) and a dedicated storage expansion slot that supports upto 512 GB of micro-sd card

Powering the mobile is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 Octa-Core CPU clocked at 2 GHz and runs on the Android 9 Pie operating system along with the MIUI 10.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon is quite fast but is no match for the Helio G70 Processor used in the Realme C3.

The SD 439 scores an impressive 76,509 on the Antutu Benchmark.

Further, we have the Adreno 505 GPU with 600 MHz clock speed to play all the modern games like PUBG, COD Mobile, etc.

Undoubtedly, the Redmi8A comes with a better design that we have seen in this price range.

The phone has a dew-drop notch display and thin bezels on all four sides.

Also, the back cover looks impressive with Dual rear cameras and a slightly textured back cover.

The Redmi 8a flaunts a 6.22 inch Dot Notch Display with a corning gorilla glass 5 protection.

There are very few mobiles in this price range that comes with the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and offers superb protection against damage from wear/tear or accidental falls.

The phone has an HD+ resolution (720*1520 pixels) along with the modern aspect ratio of 19:9.

Further, with curved sides and Aura wave grip design, it clearly is comfortable as well as has a decent grip.

Massive Battery:

Staying true to its tagline “Desh Ka Dumdaar Smartphone” it is power-packed with 5000mAh battery that can easily last longer than a day.

To make the user experience even better, there is an 18 watts fast charger that can fuel it rapidly

Also, it comes with a type C USB port, which is definitely an upgrade in phones of this range.

It has one main 12 MP rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture and dual-pixel PDAF and a LED Flash. Also, there is a secondary camera with 2 MP resolution to click better images in the portrait mode.

For selfies, at the front, it offers an 8 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Further, it supports AI enhancement and HDR features.

Using the Redmi 8A cameras you can get good daylight shots and can even record Full HD videos. The video recording could have been better if it came with stabilization.

Coming to connectivity, it offers Wi-Fi, GPSwireless FM and Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphones jack.

Some of the Cons for the Redmi 8A:

  • No Fingerprint Sensor but definitely has a quick responding face lock feature.
  • Sunlight legibility
  • Not very sharp low light or night camera performance.
  • After 18-watt charging capability, it is accompanied by a 10-watt charger in its packaging.

In a nutshell, Redmi 8A is a highly recommended smartphone that will ensure great user experience.

Xiaomi Redmi 7A India launch, Price and Specs

10th July 2019 – Latest Redmi A-Series Mobile launch – The Xiaomi Redmi 7A is launched in India and will go on the first sale on 11th July (18 Jul, 25 Jul), 2019 on Flipkart as well as Mi.com. You can buy Redmi 7A at 12:00 pm (noon) India time on both the websites (Mi.com or Flipkart).

Xiaomi Redmi 7A is the successor to the Redmi 6A which was launched last year. The new Redmi 7A is an upgrade in terms of camera performance as well as processor.

Redmi 7A Models in India and Buying Advice

Redmi 7A – 2 GB Ram and 16 GB Storage – Price Rs. 5799 (549 Yuan).

Redmi 7A – 2 GB Ram and 32 GB Storage – Price Rs. 5,999 (599 Yuan).

I am not sure why Xiaomi has launched the 16 GB storage version when the price difference between the 32 GB and 16 GB version is just Rs. 200. There is no need for any buyer to save Rs. 200 and buy the 16 GB version of Redmi 7A.

I will strongly recommend buying the 2 GB Ram and 32 GB storage version. Also, the company has not launched a 3 GB Ram and 32 GB storage version, which probably they will launch in a couple of weeks.

Key Specs and Features Xiaomi Redmi 7A

The Redmi 7A comes with a bit older design and has the 18:9 aspect ratio display with large bezels for a phone launching in 2019. Realme CEO Madhav Seth shared a tweet about this and as a true rival Realme is not letting any breathing space for Xiaomi.

Most of the budget phones are now moving to the waterdrop notch design with 19:9 aspect ratio and lower bezels.

Nevertheless, the mobile comes with a much better-looking rear cover in comparison to the predecessor.

Further, it sports a 5.45 Inch Display with HD+(1440*720) pixels resolution, which is not very large and allows the phone to have a smaller form factor.

Specs and Features – Xiaomi Redmi 7A

Powering the device is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 Octa-Core processor that comes with a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz. Moreover, it is better than the Helio P22 used in the Realme C2.

Also, we have a dedicated micro-sd card slot to increase the storage upto 256 GB.

It runs on the Android Pie 9.0 OS and comes with the latest MIUI 10 on top. The company has also added two useful features to the device – a mode for senior citizens to make the UI less confusing and another family Guardian function.

For photography, the Redmi 7A comes with a single rear camera with 13 Megapixel lens and has PDAF support. You can click selfies with it using the 5 MP front camera, which also allows for quick face unlocking.

Surprisingly, there is no fingerprint scanner on the device, and you will have to use face unlock or screen swipe for unlocking the device.

Another highlight of the device is the presence of massive 4000 mAH capacity battery that is more than sufficient to last all day.

Xiaomi is also giving a 10 Watts fast charger with the device which is better than 5 Watts charger on previous gen.

Lastly, it comes with micro-usb port, 3.5 mm headphone jack, Dual Sim, Dual Volte, and OTG support.

Xiaomi Redmi 7A offers a lot for the price and is going to be a top seller for the company. I am also getting a retail unit for review, likely in the first sale stay tuned to Candytech for more latest updates.
