LeEco launched the new LE 2 in India yesterday, and the smartphone is priced very aggressively to take on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Lenovo K4 Note. (Lenovo K4 Note price dropped by Rs. 1,000 today).
The Le 2 is priced at Rs. 11,999, and it will be available for purchase only from Flipkart. The registration to buy the smartphone will start on 20 June, and the first sale for the smartphone will be at 12:00 pm on 28 June 2016.
Leeco at the Le-future-2 event in New Delhi, in front of a packed audience, launched the two new smartphones for the Indian market – LE 2 and the Le Max 2. Both these smartphones along with the LE 2 Pro were launched in China on 21st April 2016. Within just one month they have launched the new smartphones in India and at a price which is as competitive as was in China.
In India they have not launched the LE 2 Pro but have brought the 6 GB RAM variant of the LE Max 2 priced at Rs. 29,999 and the 4 GB RAM variant will cost Rs. 22,999. (Sale starts June 28).
There is, however, a change in the processor used in the LE 2 Chinese and Indian version, Mediatek Helio X20 ( 10 Core Processor was used in the Chinese version) while the smartphone unveiled in India uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 Octa-Core SOC clocked at 1.8 GHz.
The LE 2 comes with 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with Full HD resolution and 401 PPI screen. The In-touch display comes with a blue light filter to reduce the harmful effect to eyes when reading in low light conditions.
Design wise the smartphone is not much changed if we compare it to the LE 1S, there are excellent refinements like the thickness is reduced slightly, and Antenna lines are thinner now. Also the camera has a little bump at the rear. The new smartphone also has the full metal unibody design.
The LE 2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor which is highly capable SOC, and it also comes with latest Adreno 510 GPU – which offers incredible gaming performance.
The smartphone comes with 3 GB of Ram and performance is not going to be a challenge for the LE 2. The LE 2 offers better optics with a 16 MP rear camera which comes with f/2.0 aperture and phase detection auto-focus.
The smartphone camera can capture 4K videos as well as slow-motion videos.
The front camera is also upgraded from a 5 MP shooter (in LE 1S) to an 8 MP shooter to take better selfies.
I was not impressed with the camera of LE 1S – read the review, which suffered majorly regarding focus and capturing the right amount of light, we hope they would have fixed some of those issues in the LE 2.
The smartphone comes with fixed storage of 32 GB much like the LE 1S.
The key highlight of the smartphone, however, is the CDLA (continual digital lossless audio) standard which ditches the standard 3.5 mm jack and uses the USB Type C port to listen to music. You will require the USB type C headphones to listen to music on this device and your standard 3.5 mm jack earphones won’t work.
It is technologically a big step ahead and comes with active noise cancellation technology and offer superior listening experience, but are we stepping into the future too soon, too fast.
LeEco has also launched the Type C port headphones which will set you back by about Rs. 1,990, if you wish to use headphones with this device.
They won’t be bundling a free pair if you are wondering.
Another major drawback I think about the USB type C headphones is you can use them when you are charging the smartphone, and I think it is a big nuisance as you can’t enjoy YouTube videos or songs while your phone is getting charged.
On the other hand, this is a move which many leaks confirm Apple will be integrating into the next iPhone and we will see many headphone manufacturers coming up with the Type C headphones.
The smartphone is equipped with 3000 mAH battery capacity and runs on the latest Android Marshmallow OS 6.0 along with the custom skin eUI 5.8 from LeEco.
LeEco has announced that they would be giving away (for Re 1) 300 LE 2 smartphones for which you need to register on Facebook as well LEmall.com to be eligible for the offer.
The smartphone comes with Dual sim support and with 4G LTE, it also will support VOLTE in India after an OTA update as confirmed by LeEco in a press release.
The LE 2 comes with a fast fingerprint scanner at the back of the device which has a mirror finish. LeEco is also offering one year of LeEco digital content membership Free, which is priced at Rs. 4,900 p.a.
Overall we are impressed with the quick launch of the LeEco smartphones in India; we dwell more about the camera quality and other aspects of the new LE devices very soon.
Share your thoughts about the CDLA technology and our you willing to give up your beloved 3.5 mm jack to brace to future.
