Crushing all the previous rumors about which smartphone will be the first one to debut the next processor from Qualcomm, Le Max Pro has emerged as the winner. Letv is scheduled to debut in India on 20 January 2016.
Update 28 Feb 2016 – The LE Max Pro is the first Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 smartphone to go on sale ahead of the Xiaomi Mi5. The Le Max Pro went on sale in China on 23 February, though only 1000 units were up for grabs. The pricing for the smartphone is very aggressive with just 1999 CNY or Rs. 21,000. We can also expect the LeEco to bring the smartphone in India ahead of the Xiaomi Mi5 launch.
The news was broken by the Qualcomm spokesman sharing details about the upcoming Qualcomm technologies at the CES 2016, going on in Las Vegas.
Earlier it was rumored that the processor will debut on the Samsung Galaxy S7 which is due in early 2016. While there was no official announcement from Samsung about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 but rumors were ripe that they will use the processor in the upcoming S7 as an exclusive tie-up for some months.
Why the Snapdragon 820 is a big deal?
It is the cutting edge processor created by the Qualcomm technologies and offers 2X more performance compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor used in the OnePlus 2.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 uses the 680 DSP which brings power efficiency and increased battery life to the smartphones.
This essentially is a very big leap in performance and if you buy a Snapdragon 820 powered smartphone, it will be good enough to use at least till 2019. Also, it is worthy to note that Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is a Quad Core processor, not an Octa-Core.
Processors don’t use 8 cores even when gaming, a 4 Core or even a Dual Core processor can easily outpace an 8 Core or a 10 Core processor.
The processor will come with better power efficiency, image processor, and faster connectivity.
It supports the X12 LTE which offers 33% faster download speed (600 MB/S) compared to the X10 LTE used in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.
Snapdragon 820 will also support the new standard for WIFI 802.11ad along with the 802.11ac which will offer 2X speed on WIFI network compared to the current generations.
The advanced image signal processor used in the Snapdragon 820 will enable smartphone makers to use up to 25 Megapixel cameras without shutter lag and improved ability to process images.
A delight for the gamers, Adreno 530 GPU will offer 40% better FPS compared to the Adreno 430 used in the Snapdragon 810.
Greatest delight is that it will make the smartphones get charged 38% faster compared to the devices with Quick Charge 2.0. Snapdragon 820 will support the next generation of fast charging technology Quick Charge 3.0.
