The Indian mid-range smartphone category is yet again flooded with new smartphones. Firstly, it was Lenovo who unveiled the Lenovo K8 Note smartphone in India this month, while the Coolpad Cool Play 6 also launched couple of days back.

The Lenovo K8 Note and Coolpad Cool Play are both available from Amazon India. The first sale for the Coolpad Coolplay 6 starts from 4th September 2017.

The Lenovo K8 Note and Coolpad Cool Play 6 has several resemblances with each other.

The design of both the phones is nearly same, followed by the same display size, dual camera setup, and even the battery capacity is same in both the phones. But they have some factors which distinguishes them from each other.

1) Display

As said earlier, both the smartphones have similar display size. The Lenovo K8 Note and Coolpad Cool Play 6 features a 5.5-inch Full HD display. The Lenovo K8 Note display comes with 2.5D Curve glass and there is also Corning Gorilla Glass coating to protect the display from scratches.

In this aspect, both the smartphone vendors have done a great job. The K8 Note and Cool Play 6 both feature a full metal body design with the edges slightly chamfered. The fingerprint scanner is also rear mounted on both the devices.

Moreover, the rear camera setup is also similar on both the phones. Though the K8 Note looks sliglty more premium and robust in construction.

The Lenovo K8 Note is powered by the Deca-core MediaTek Helio X23 chipset clocked at 2.3 GHz ((cluster 1 with ARM-A72 clocked @ 2.3GHz, Cluster 2: ARM-A53 @ 1.85 GHz, CPU Cluster 3: ARM-A53 @ 1.4 GHz) , clubbed with at least 3GB/4GB of RAM. Both the phones offer up to 64GB of internal storage.

Both the devices have connectivity options such as 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and etc.

The Coolpad Cool Play 6 comes in a single storage variant of 64GB and is powered by the Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 4 Cores (Cortex A72) clocked at 1.95 GHz and the other 4 cores (Cortex A53) are clocked at 1.44 GHz,  along with the Adreno 510 GPU. The smartphone comes with a massive 6 GB of RAM. The 6 GB RAM is the key highlight for the Coolpad Cool Play 6 and makes it stand out in the crowd of mid range phones.

This section comes as a tie. However, the Cool Play 6 has a better multitasking because of the massive 6 GB RAM inside the device.

4). Price, Storage and RAM

As mentioned above the Lenovo K8 Note comes in two storage and Ram versions – K8 Note with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB is priced at Rs. 12999 and the 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage version is priced at Rs. 13,999. The storage is expandable on the Lenovo K8 Note and comes with a dedicated micro-sd card slot which supports upto 128 GB of capacity.

On the hand the Coolpad Coolplay 6 comes with 64 GB of inbuilt storage which is not expandable, so you can’t use a memory card with the smartphone. The Coolplay 6 is priced at Rs. 14,999 in the Indian market.

5). Camera Quality and Features

The Coolpad Cool Play 6 has two 13 MP sensors at the back. One sensor shoots RGB shots, while the other one shoots dedicated monochrome shots. The cameras come with f/2.0 aperture, Dual Led Flash and also has support for recording 4k Videos.

On the flip side, the K8 Note also comes with Dual Rear Camera setup and has a 13 MP Pure Cel Plus sensor at the back, along with a 5 MP secondary sensor. So, the Cool Play 6 wins the race, going by specs. Both the cameras are decent and in practical scenario offer close performance.

Selfie Cameras – The Cool Play 6 has a decent 8 MP front-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture , while the K8 Note has a much powerful 13 MP front-facing camera along with the front Led Flash. The selfie enthusiasts will prefer to got with the K8 Note.

5) Operating System and Experience

The Lenovo K8 Note is one of the first smartphones from Lenovo which comes with stock Android Experience as they have stopped using the Lenovo Vibe UI, The Lenovo K8 Note comes with fast and fluid stock Android Nougat 7.1.

On the other hand, the Coolpad CoolPlay 6 also comes with the Android Nougat 7.1 but comes with custom Journey UI which comes with some special Apps like freezer, backup and transfers adding some more essential features to the plains stock Android experience.

5). Battery Life

As said earlier, the phones come with a decent 4000mAh battery. Along with Lenovo’ stock Android optimisations, the K8 Note will deliver insane battery life. Both the phones have fast charging support as well.

The Lenovo K8 Note and Cool Play 6 are one of the best smartphones available right now in India. If you want more RAM and Snapdragon chipset, then you can buy the Coolpad Coolplay 6.

On the other hand the Lenovo K8 Note has a better display with lesser bezels. It also has a decent processor, better selfie camera, and storage (which is expandable), the sound Quality is also better on the K8 Note with Dolby DTS support, and it also comes with the stock Android experience.

Both the phones are great choices, though if I have to buy one – I would pick up the Lenovo K8 Note.
