Lenovo Phab2 Pro launched in India (4 Cameras, Augmented Reality)

World’s first Google Project Tango based smartphone from Lenovo has landed in India at a price tag of ₹29,990. The very first smartphone with built-in AR (Augmented reality) technology  Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is available exclusively on Flipkart. The smartphone was unveiled back in June 2016, at the Lenovo Tech World event in San Francisco.

Brief on the Google Project Tango – The Project Tango basically enables your smartphone to be more spatially aware, which means you can use the smartphone for tasks like measurements and finding the depth or height of objects is made easy using the AR function.

It can measure 3D objects like your living rooms sofa or dining table. It can also be used in the games. Though more practical applications for this is in nascent stage.

Some Uses for Project Tango and Apps you can use with the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro:

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro’s highlight is it optics, it comes with support for Augmented Reality and carries 4 Cameras. There are 3 cameras at the back which work together to give an experience of AR.

There is a 16 Mega pixel normal camera at the back, below which there is a depth sensing camera, and beneath that, there is a motion sensing camera. All three working together creates the AR experience. While at the front Phab 2 Pro comes with an 8 MP selfie shooter.

The Phab 2 Pro is different in most ways when compared to its sibling Phab 2 Plus, which was released in India some weeks back.

Both the smartphones have similar screen size and design. The Phab 2 Pro comes with a huge 6.4 inch Quad HD (2560*1440 pixels) IPS display. The front side of the mobile has off-screen navigation buttons, the finger print scanner is placed at the back, below the camera module.

Lenovo has gone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 Chipset Octa-Core processor instead of a MediaTek chipset found on Phab 2.

Including the Adreno 510 GPU, the processor is coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The storage is expandable upto 256 GB using the hybrid sim slot. The smartphone runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 along with Lenovo UI.

The other highlight for the Phab 2 Pro is the Dolby Atmos Audio chip with some nifty features:

  • 5.1 Audio Capture
  • 3 mics with 360 voice
  • Noise-cancelling

The smartphone offers enhanced experience if you are shooting videos with improved video stabilization along with the ability to record 5.1 surround sound, something desirable for many professionals.

What good is a phone if the battery doesn’t compliment it, Lenovo has taken care of it by going with a large 4050 mAH battery capacity along with Quick charge support.

The smartphone will be available on Flipkart in Gold color very soon.

The Phab 2 Pro is a good concept, yet too early for it’s time. There are many good options like OnePlus 3T, Honor 8, recently released Samsung C9 Pro, which can be top choice for many users, though if you love to experiment and don’t want to walk off the beaten path, Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is for you.
