Mafia III was released 2 days back on 7th of October and is priced at $60 or Rs. 2499 in India. The digital deluxe edition will cost Rs. 3499. While the game works well on the consoles (PS4 and XBox One) it is a poor port on PC.
The issues range from a 30 FPS lock for the PC gamers which was initially there when the game was released on 7th October. After hue and cry from the PC gamers the developer Hanger 13 which is working along with 2K games studio(publisher) issued a patch with 1.2 GB size to unlock the FPS.
Hanger 13 issued a statement “PC players, reboot Mafia III because patch 1.01 is now available for download. This patch includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options on PC. To select your frame rate, just head to the display menu in-game. Just make sure to tailor the frame rate settings to the power of your machine.”
After the patch the game still does not run as intended and faces issues from poor graphics and frequent crashes. Gamers with PC Rigs using graphics cards like GTX 970 and even the GTX 1060 are struggling to play the game with smooth frame rates.
It is a poor port from the console, not tested for PC and released early to earn quick bucks with proper PC optimisations. The Gamers on Reddit are furious for the lack of quality from the developer and are asking for refund.
Though the developer Hanger 13 has issued a statement that they will be releasing a patch on the weekend to fix the issues and it is difficult to test the game on different PC hardware before release.
Statement from Hanger 13”We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III. We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback! “
Personally I feel the Mafia III is a good game with performance issues and once these are fixed all go home happy. I have played the original Mafia back in my crazy all night gaming days and it was unique and different to everything I experienced, with excellent music and great graphics.
Though sad part is if you are from India where $60 is a very big sum of money for any gamer, mostly dependent on parents for money and you buy something and it just don’t work as expected. You feel cheated, more cheated than more rich folks of west. Either way we are paying full money we need to get a good product for our $2000 PC RiGs.
I still remember how the Batman Arkham Knights was a poor port for PC and eventually developer was unable to fix it and called for refund. PC gamers deserve better games and quality assurance from developers, not just poor ports. Hope developers fix the game today or tomorrow as promised so I can get back to enjoying it at the fullest.
