The new Micromax budget VOLTE smartphones are called as Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2. I have not misspelled the word Video, but this is actually modified and named like this by Micromax. These are affordable smartphones that are compatible with the Reliance JIO 4G Sim.
Micromax is known to launch smartphones around a particular theme or a cause which they think Indians users will benefit from, and the new budget smartphones are no different.
Few months back they had come up with their “Unite series” which had support for 12 regional languages. A highlight to attract the people who want regional language support with decent specs and price.
Similarly this time also they’re pitching us a smartphone with a feature that would encourage people to use it more often.
A whole new series named “Vdeo” revolving around the practice of Video Calling, a feature that can evolve with time. WhatsApp has added the functionality of Video calling and can make a difference to video calling habits of people.
A country where 3G users are more when compared to 4G, Micromax has set their eyes on making smartphones with 4G/LTE to acquire most of the crowd.
There are 2 variants been released Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2 with Google Duo preloaded along with option of 4G/LTE support.
The total number of 3G and 4G subscribers is more than 120 Million in India, and recently Reliance JIO claimed to have over 50 million 4G subscribers. Notably lot of JIO subscribers are multi-sim users, which are using JIO as a secondary sim card.
Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2
Both the variants are entry-level smartphones which come bundled with Reliance Jio sim cards. The Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2 are priced at ₹4,440 and ₹4,990.
The Vdeo 1 flaunts a 4-inch WVGA display. Where as Vdeo 2 sports a 4.5 inch FWVGA display.
Both the smartphones run on Quad-core Spreadtrum processor and are coupled with 1 GB of RAM. They both offer 8 GB of internal storage and has option of expanding storage with the help of micro SD cards.
They even share the similar optics, 5 MP rear camera and 2 MP front camera. There is difference in the battery capacity of both devices.
The former Vdeo 1 sports a 1600 mAH battery and the latter Vdeo 2 sports a 1800 mAH battery.
There’s a Micromax branding at the bottom. This indicates the presence of on-screen navigation buttons.
One of the highlights of the phone, along with the features mentioned above are the “Metal Back Cover”which is quite rare in this price range.
The smartphones will be made in India and will go on sale online as well as offline in December 2016.
The users who would like to activate the free Jio SIM. They’ll have to take it to a Reliance Store and get it activated with their KYC documents within seven days of purchasing the phone.
