Microsoft launched the two coolest smartphones they launched in many years on October 6, 2015. The smartphones not only have the latest Windows 10 operating system specially designed for mobile devices but also have the best hardware available in the flagship smartphone.
They come with liquid cooling technology, which makes them the coolest smartphones in the mobile arena.
Update – 01- December-2015 – The Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL are now launched in the Indian market and are available now on Amazon India. The Microsoft lumia 950 is priced at Rs. 43,699 and the Lumia 950 XL comes at a price tag of Rs. 49,399.
Microsoft launched the two new smartphones at an event held in the US on 6-Oct-2015. Microsoft launched the flagship smartphones after a hibernation period of almost two years. The previous flagship that we saw from Microsoft was the Lumia 1520 which came with a massive 6-inch screen.
Microsoft has also announced that the smartphone buyers will also get the dock which offers continuum feature which allows users to use the smartphone as a PC by connecting to external monitor, mouse, and keyboard to work on a larger display.
The dock is priced at Rs. 5699 and will be free for the initial smartphone buyers.
The Microsoft Lumia Dock
After weeks of leaks and specification rumors finally, the new smartphones were launched and most of the leaks and details we reported passed with five stars.
The new smartphones were unveiled by Panos Panay who heads the engineering department of the Microsoft Premium devices.
The New Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL come with 20 Megapixel camera at the rear, which has features like 4K video recording, Optical image stabilization, and triple LED RGB camera flash module.
The smartphone comes with the dedicated camera button. The front camera is also a wide angle 5 Megapixel shooter which can take some incredible selfies.
The Microsoft Lumia 950 supports 5.2 Quad HD Screen with 2560*1440 resolution and offers an incredible pixel density of 564 PPI. The smartphone is powered by the Hexa-Core processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Soc, and it comes with 32 GB of internal Storage.
The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and with a 5.7 inch Quad HD Display. The Lumia 950 XL has a 3340 mAH battery capacity while the Lumia 950 comes with a 3000 mAH capacity battery.
Both the phones use single nano sim. The Lumia 950 weighs 150 grams while the Lumia 950 XL weighs 165 grams due to the larger screen and the battery capacity.
Both the mobiles are the first to run on the Windows 10 platform for mobile and Microsoft even said that they are liquid cooled which make them perform better.
Microsoft calls the liquid cooling as a tablet class cooling solution which helps ineffective cooling for the processor and internal components when you are gaming or doing CPU intensive work.
Also, the company said the smartphones are equipped with the adaptive antenna technology which makes sure that the reception for calls is excellent irrespective of the way the user holds the smartphone.
The Lumia 950 and 950 XL comes with the latest USB Type C port. The smartphones also have the quick charge technology which enables them to get charged 50% in just 30 minutes.
There are two new cool features which are unique to the new Microsoft devices.
- Windows Hello Biometric System – The biometric system allows users to unlock the smartphone just by looking at the screen with the help of facial recognition technology.
- Continuum which allows you to connect your smartphone to the display dock which comes with HDMI and Display port and USB ports. You can use your smartphone as a PC and project the display on the monitor.
Microsoft also announced the budget Lumia 550 for $139, we reported about the Lumia 550 couple of weeks back. Microsoft has yet not given many details about the Lumia 550 but told that they planned to launch the smartphone in December 2015.
Pricing for both the smartphones is a bit higher considering the Samsung Galaxy S6 is available below Rs. 40,000 which offers equivalent or higher performance in many areas compared to the Lumia phones.
Microsoft has bundled the dock with the phones which may have also added to the increase in price. We may see the price fall in a couple of weeks and may see the dock offered as an accessory for those looking forward to buying it.
