Affordable Moto E5 Series Bring Oreo, Good Battery Life, and Bezel-free Displays
Recently, Motorola has launched the new Moto E series along with the Moto G6 series (Moto G6 Plus, G6 and G6 Play).
The new Moto E5 Plus and Moto E5 are battery life focused phones that also offer the modern 18:9 aspect ratio display. Similar to the Moto G6 series the E series also has got a design revamp and now offers a more refined glass back look with reflective patterns.
Notably, these come with hidden antenna lines and have contoured edges that improve the grip and comfort.
Price and Availability
Moto E5 Plus costs Euro €169 or Rs. 13,800 and the E5 is available for €149 or Rs. 12,000. Importantly, these phones are yet not launched in India but may go on sale next month. Also, these prices are shared by Motorola for the European market, the price can be significantly lower in India.
Also, the lowest model E5 play will only launch in the US and comes with a 16:9 aspect ratio display instead of 18:9.
Let’s have a look at what these new Moto E series phones have to offer.
There are some common features in the Moto E5 series such as all the devices run on the Android Oreo 8.0 out of the box with stock Android Experience.
They use the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor and the Adreno 308 GPU. Also, there is a selfie flash present on the front side, and the fingerprint scanner is present at the rear, embedded in the Moto Logo.
Also, there is a water repellent coating (P2i) present on all the three devices, making these splash proof. The connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Dual Sim, Bluetooth 4.2, Micro-USB, 3.5 mm Audio Jack. There is no NFC support or USB-Type C port.
Moto E5 Plus
For starters, the Moto E5 plus comes with a massive 5000 mAH battery capacity that effortlessly offers 1.5 to 2 days of battery life. Also, there is fast charging support to ensure that you never run out of juice.
It comes with a 15 Watts Turbo Charger that offers 6 hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging.
Notably, the phone has a large 6.0 Inch Full Vision Display with 18:9 aspect ratio (sans the infamous notch). Additionally, the display has HD+ (1440*720 pixels) resolution and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass coating.
Powering the phone is the Quad-Core Snapdragon 425 processor and Adreno 308 GPU. The Snapdragon 425 is old and not as powerful as the SD 430 or 435 that comes with Octa-Core architecture. Our hopes for a super fast performance are limited from the Moto E5 series.
For imaging, there is a Single 12 Megapixel rear camera that comes with 1.25-micron pixel size and has F/2.0 aperture, PDAF / laser autofocus support. At the front, there is an 8 Megapixel front selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture and dedicated flash.
Furthermore, it comes with 32 GB internal storage (expandable up to 128 GB) and has 3 GB ram. Lastly, it weighs a massive 200 grams and has 9.4mm thickness.
The Moto E5 comes with a slightly smaller 5.7 Inch Display with 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ (1440*720 pixels) resolution. It has the same processor and GPU and comes with 16 GB internal storage (expandable up to 128 GB) and 2 GB Ram.
Also, there are changes to camera configuration, as the E5 sports a 13 Megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1.12-micron lens. For selfies, it has a 5-megapixel front shooter with f/2.2 aperture.
There is a 4000 mAH capacity battery that is sufficient to last all day. The phone uses a 10 Watts charger for rapid charging. Lastly, it has a thickness of 8.95 mm and weighs 174 grams.
Moto E5 Play
Next, we have the most affordable member of the Moto E5 series that is meant only for the US market. The phone comes with a 5.2 Inch conventional 16:9 aspect ratio display with HD resolution.
There is 2 GB Ram and 16 GB internal storage, expandable up to 128 GB using the micro-sd card. Aforementioned, it uses the same Processor/GPU as the other two devices.
Powering the phone is a 2800 mAH capacity battery that offers rapid charging using a 10 Watts charger. The E5 Play weighs 150 grams and has a thickness of 8.85 mm.
Since the phone is meant for the US market where most phones are a single sim, it skips the Dual sim support.
The Moto E5 series has a lot in common with the Moto G6 series. The design language is similar and features such as turbocharging and addition of bezel-free display are identical.
However, Motorola has not mentioned about the crowd favorite face unlocking feature in the Moto E5 series. As I said, in the previous article on the Moto G6 series, pricing will play a crucial role in the success of new Moto phones in the hyper-competitive Indian market.
There is a tough competition in the sub 10k price range from players such as Xiaomi, iVoomi, Itel, Swipe, etc that are leaving no stone unturned to grab the market share.
Let’s wait for the price and launch updates for the new Moto phones. Most likely they will launch next month in India. Stay tuned for more updates.
