It has a similar design when compared to the Motorola Moto G4 Plus which was launched on 18th May 2016 priced at Rs. 13,499 and 14,999.Both the smartphones have similar design  and screen size but there are some differences in both the devices.

While the new Moto G4 and G4 Plus will be available in black as well as white color variants.  The Motorola Moto G4 doesnot come with a fingerprint scanner which is there on the Moto G4 Plus. I

The best part is that the smartphones are going to be available without any flash sale or registration.

The Motorola Moto G4 comes with a curved design somewhat like the Moto G Gen 3 but with a larger display and a metallic edge around the corners. There is no home button and the fingerprint scanner in case of the Moto G4. There is a fingerprint scanner is available if you purchase the Moto G4 Plus. I already have a Moto G4 Plus which comes with a fingerprint scanner. The home button on the Moto G4 Plus does not double up as a home screen button but act as a stand alone fingerprint scanner button to unlock.

I have used the G4 Plus now for more than 2 weeks and so far the user experience has been good, a full detailed review is in progress.

The back cover has a matte micro-textured finish which improves the grip.

The smartphone is not very heavy and weighs 155 grams while the thickness is a bit higher with the highest point measuring 9.8 mm and thinnest having 7.9 mm.

The Motorola Moto G4  comes with 5.5-inch screen size and a full HD resolution protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and 401 PPI. This is a significant upgrade compared to the Moto G3 which comes with 5.0 HD display and 293 PPI.

The Moto G4  powered by Snapdragon 617 64 Bit Octa-Core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, similar to the G4 Plus, offers good performance for day to day tasks and gaming too.  The smartphone will come with 16 GB of storage and 2 GB of Ram.

As far as the specs go the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 is a much faster when compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 used in the Moto G3.  Also  FHD display can offer better video playback with the Adreno 405 GPU compared to the Adreno 305 on Moto G.

The Moto G4 is essentially same like the G4 Plus without the Fingerprint scanner button.

The Moto G4  has a 13 Megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture. There is Dual Color balancing LED flash mounted in the same assembly at the back. The Moto G4 Plus has a 16 MP camera at the rear of the device.

The front camera is a 5 Megapixel shooter and comes with 84-degree wide angle lens and a f/2.2 aperture.

OS and Storage

The smartphone runs on the latest Android version – Marshmallow and may also get an update to Android N. (going by the past experience).

The storage space on the Moto G4 is 16 GB and it can be expanded to 128 GB using the Micro-sd card.

The Moto G4 comes with Dual Sim support and has 4G LTE data connectivity.  There is a dedicated slot for the micro sd card and you can use 2 sims + micro sd card simultaneously.

Similar to the G4 Plus Bluetooth v4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Micro-USB, 3.5mm audio jack available. The Sensors on board include the accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor.

Battery Life

The smartphone comes with a decent battery capacity of 3000 mAH which is around 18% more compared to the Moto G3. Oddly, There is non-modular charger which comes with the smartphone.

Competition & Initial Thoughts

Motorola Moto G4 will compete against the Redmi Note 3 , LeEco LE 1S , Lenovo K4 Note and the Meizu M3 Note. We can expect the new smartphone to be priced at Rs. 11,000 to Rs. 12,499 when it gets launched in the Indian market.

  1. The phone can also be useless if we will forgot the long pass key. So secondary security should not be mandatory. This is diluting the purpose of fingerprint scanner for high security.

  2. Hello,

One query – My friend purchased MOTO G4 Plus. I m impressed with its features like Stock Android; 3GB RAM, internal 32GB memory & 128GB expandable. But as that of screen lock; I observed that finger print scanner can easily be bypassed and I can unlock easily with secondary security like pattern or pin. Then what’s its necessity? Or are there any other security features that we can use/have with fingerprint sensor/scanner?

Would like to see detail review of MOTO G4 Plus…

    • Thank you for your quick response. But the secondary security option is a mandatory in MOTO G4Plus. We can not use just fingerprint scanner as security option. If there is a way to set only fingerprint scanner as unlocking option, please let us know how to do setting for the same? (Screenshots will be more helpful)…

    • it is important to have secondary unlock option if fingerprint scanner stops working your phone will be useless – you can set a very long pass key it is impossible to break it
