The last year’s Moto G4 Plus came with one of the best cameras in mid-range phones. In fact, the rear camera was astonishingly better than anything in the sub 15K price range. The G4 Plus at the time of launch was priced at Rs. 14,999 for the 32 GB storage and 3 GB RAM version.
Even, the Motorola Moto G5 Plus comes with several highlight features including the vastly improved rear camera.
The Top 5 Key Features of the Motorola Moto G5 Plus are
1. Google Assistant – It was exclusive to Pixel Phones earlier (Virtual Assistant).
2. Android Nougat 7.0 – Pure Stock Android Experience.
3. New Front Oval Shaped Fingerprint Scanner.
4. Premium design, splash proof, Aluminum 6000
5. Dual Pixel Rear Camera – 25% better than G4 Plus Low Light Performance.
Build and Finish
The Motorola Moto G5 Plus is made of Aluminum 6000 metal, similar to the Nokia 6. The phone has a premium metallic finish and is even splash-proof. Besides, it is made of diamond cut finish and the camera at the back looks incredibly cool.
Moto G5 Plus draws power from Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa Core Processor clocked at 2.0 GHz. Coupled with the Adreno 506 GPU, to offer blazing fast performance. It is the same configuration found on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.
The smartphone comes with 32 GB /64 GB of storage and 3 GB /4 GB RAM respectively.
Display and Camera
The Motorola Moto G5 Plus comes with a 5.2 Inch display with Full HD resolution with 423 PPi. The Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects the display.
Above all, the key highlight of the phone is the 12 Mega Pixel rear camera with a f/1.7 aperture. It is excellent for even low light photography due to the larger aperture size. The camera comes with Dual Autofocus pixels and can focus on the subject even before a blink.
The camera is 25% better compared to the Moto G4 Plus, especially in the low light conditions.
Furthermore, the rear camera comes with a Dual Led Flash and even has the capability to record 4K videos. Motorola is claiming that it is the best camera mobile in this price range available in India.
“By utilizing 10x more pixels on the sensor, you can focus on your subject up to 60 percent faster than Moto G4 Plus”, as stated by Motorola at the launch.
What’s more, there is a 5 Megapixel front camera with a wide-angle lens and even has the beautification mode. Motorola is using the Google Gallery as the standard App for managing photos.
The G5 Plus comes with an oblong shape front mounted Fingerprint Scanner.
Android Nougat & Connectivity
Additionally, the G5 comes with a Moto App that offers gesture support, like twist to open the camera App and shake to turn on the flashlight sensor. Nifty additions to the bland Android UI.
For connectivity, there is NFC and Dual Sim support. Besides, it has a dedicated slot to use the micro-sd card. In fact, you can use upto 256 GB memory card with the new Moto G5 Plus. There is support for 3G as well as 4G LTE and VOLTE. Hence it will work with all the major telecom operators (JIO, Airtel, Idea, and Vodafone) in India without any hassles.
The Motorola Moto G5 Plus comes with 3000 mAH Capacity battery life that can last all day because of the power efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Processor.
Motorola said at the launch event “they researched and found out that the most important factor for the consumers is Display, battery life, and camera performance”. Thereby, they have focused on these, in the Moto G5 Plus and made it an un-compromising device.
Flipkart Buy Back Offer Details for Moto G5 Plus
Furthermore, Flipkart is offering some freebies with the new Moto G5 Plus. Here are the details of the Buy Back Guarantee offer: The buyback program allows you to sell your smartphone to Flipkart between 6 to 8 months after purchase at a discounted price.
You can buy a new mobile from some selected sellers on Flipkart and adjust the buyback amount. The buyback price looks ridiculously low. In other words, the overall scheme doesn’t look very attractive as the 7K buyback amount is quite low. You can easily get a much higher value on OLX or Quicker than from Flipkart. Egregiously, there are many more conditions that you need to be aware before opting for it.
Initial thoughts on Motorola Moto G5 Plus, Redmi Note 4, Huawei Honor 6X
In conclusion, the Motorola Moto G5 Plus looks promising and the phone comes with decent specs for the price. It competes with the Huawei Honor 6X and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. But the higher variant of the Moto G5 Plus is more expensive in comparison to both these devices.
Moto G5 Plus has a better camera and runs on the latest OS in comparison to the top-selling Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. On the other hand, the advantage of the Redmi Note 4 is a Brobdingnagian battery, it can last up to 30% higher with its 4100 mAH battery capacity.
Also, there is a price advantage and additional storage (Redmi Note 4 comes with 64 GB of storage) compared to 32 GB on the Moto G5 Plus. Having said that, if you are looking for a better camera and stock Android experience the Moto G5 Plus may be ideal for you. Otherwise, the Redmi Note 4 is bang for the buck.
Motorola has also launched a more affordable Moto G5 in the Indian market.

For photography, it has a 13 Megapixel rear camera(f/2.0 aperture) with auto-focus and Dual Led Flash. Additionally, there is a 5 Megapixel front selfie camera. The G5 has a decent 2800 mAH capacity battery which is sufficient to last all day and even comes with Moto Turbo charging support.
