A Better Design
The new Moto G6 series comes with a stunning new design which is similar to the more expensive Moto X4. To recall, the Moto G5s and the G5s Plus came with a metallic back cover, the new G6 series comes with a gorgeous looking glass back cover.
Motorola says that the glass back is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 that makes it more durable. The edges are contoured to provide a better grip and the camera lines are concealed from view.
Also, the Dual rear camera comes with the iconic dial design seen previously on the Moto X4.
The front side has a full vision display that comes with the modern 18:9 aspect ratio (without a notch). Also, there is a front flash that makes selfies brighter in the low light conditions.
Aforementioned, all the three phones come with P2i rating making these splash resistant.

Let’s Check out the Key Specs and Features for each of the three new G Series models by Motorola.
Price Rs. 13,999, 15,999
The key highlight of the Moto G6 is its Dual rear camera setup that comes with a 12 MP (f/1.8)+ 5 MP camera. The camera setup is similar to the Moto G6 Plus but the primary lens comes with f/1.8 aperture instead of the f/1.7 aperture on the Plus variant.
Additionally, it comes with a 16 Megapixel front selfie camera (international version comes with 8 MP selfie camera) to click detailed selfies. Motorola has changed the front selfie camera in India to make it more attractive for the selfie lovers and more importantly to compete with the RN5 Pro that comes with a 20 MP selfie shooter.
There are camera modes like the text scanner mode, Bokeh mode, selective focus or the spot color to enhance your images.
Also, it is smaller and comes with a 5.7 Inch Full HD+ display with 2160*1080 pixels resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio display.
Powering the phone is the mid-range Octa-Core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Processor with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz. Additionally, there is Adreno 506 GPU and 3 GB /4 GB ram to take care of multi-tasking.
There is Android Oreo 8.0 OS and all three phones (Moto G6 and G6 Plus, G6 Play) will even get the Android P update.

Also, it comes with connectivity options such as Dual Sim, 4G VOLTE, USB Type C port, Bluetooth 4.2 and 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Notably, there is no NFC support and it has Bluetooth version 4.2 instead of 5.0, unlike the top model.
Further, It weighs 163 grams and has a thickness of 8.3 mm.
Also, both Moto G6 and G6 Plus comes with 3 microphones and even has the Dolby Audio support.
Lastly, the battery capacity is 3000 mAH and it even comes with turbocharging support.
Moto G6 Play
Price Rs. 11,999
Coming to the most affordable member of the Moto G6 series, the Moto G6 Play. It comes with a Bezel-less, 18:9 aspect ratio, 5.7 Inch display. However, it has a lower HD+ (1440*720 pixels) resolution.
Powering the device is the tried and tested Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 / Adreno 505, Octa-Core processor with a maximum clock speed of 1.4 GHz.
The phone offers either 2 GB / 3 GB ram and 16 GB / 32 GB internal storage with expandability option. In India, the company has launched it in 3 GB Ram and 32 GB storage option.
However, the key highlight of the Moto G6 Play is its long battery life. As it comes with a massive 4000 mAH capacity battery that offers rapid charging support using a 10W charger.
For photography, there is a single rear camera with 13 Megapixels resolution and even has a 5 Megapixel front selfie camera with a dedicated selfie flash. The rear camera has a f/2.0 aperture whereas, the selfie shooter offers f/2.2 aperture and 80-degree wide angle lens.
On the connectivity front, it comes with the traditional micro-USB port and has 4G VOLTE, Dual Sim, WIFI and Bluetooth 4.2 support.
Furthermore, it weighs 180 grams and has 9.0 mm thickness which seems higher but is attributed to the larger battery capacity.
Moto G6 Plus
Not Yet launched in India.
The Moto G6 Plus comes with a large 5.93 Inch Full HD+ Display with 2160*1080 pixels resolution. Aforementioned, the display has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and even comes with the 2.5D Curved Glass.
For imaging, it comes with a Dual Rear camera with 12 MP + 5 MP lens. The higher resolution lens comes with a f/1.7 aperture and the smaller lens has a f/2.2 aperture.
Notably, the front selfie camera comes with an 8-megapixel lens that has 80-degree wide-angle view and has a f/2.0 aperture. At the back there is a Dual tone, twin led flash, moreover, the front side has a selfie camera flash.
Powering the mobile is the Octa-Core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor with a clock speed of 2.2 GHz and the Adreno 508 GPU. There is 4 GB Ram and 64 GB internal storage space, expandable up to 128 GB using the micro-sd card slot.
Additionally, it runs on the latest Android Oreo 8.0 with stock Android experience.
Connectivity – The new G6 Plus is loaded with modern connectivity options like USB Type C port, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0 and also has the standard options like 3.5 mm Audio jack and 4G VOLTE.
Battery Capacity – Lastly, it comes with 3200 mAH capacity battery that supports the Motorola Turbo Charging technology (offers 7 hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging).
The phone weighs 165 grams and has a thickness of 7.99 mm.
The new G6 series looks exciting and Motorola is bound to get a lot of traction in the market.
The key success factor in the hyper-competitive Indian market is the price. That we will get to know when the brand launches these new phones in the coming month.
Besides, the ex-market leader Samsung seems to be sleeping and running the show with old models. Samsung is not able to compete with the latest offering from the Chinese manufacturers.
One thing is noteworthy here, both the Moto G6 and the G6 Play lack the muscle needed to compete with the likes of Redmi Note 5 Pro or the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. All said and done Snapdragon 450 and 430 are no match for the Snapdragon 636 or even the Helio P60 used in the Oppo RealMe 1.
Enthusiasts, looking for a snappy device will not find the new Motorola phones very exciting despite some really good features and specs. Also, I find it a bit strange that the company is pitting the G6 agains the rivals in place of the G6 Plus which is not launched in the country.
Besides, Motorola can make some impact on the ever-expanding Xiaomi empire with a more focused online as well as retail strategy.
Notably, Motorola is expanding the retail presence with utmost seriousness. They recently opened 25 Moto Hubs in North East, 60 in Madhya Pradesh, and 50 in AP and many more in other parts of the country.
Let’s wait for the India launch and more updates.
