There’s no denying the fact that Lenovo-owned Motorola is working on the next flagship phone, the Moto Z 2017 and is pegged to release sometime in May 2017. However, it now looks like Motorola is not hiding the phone from the public.
At the recently concluded MWC 2017 event in Barcelona, Spain, Motorola announced the Moto G5 and G5 Plus with decent specs under-the-hood. The new Moto G phones sealed the show, and the company showcased several upcoming Moto Mods for the Moto Z phones.
MOTO Z 2016
Demonstrating the Gamepad Moto Mod, the company has shown some press images of the Mod along with a phone. But, what’s interesting is the fact that the phone used in the picture was not the Moto Z nor Moto Z Play. In fact, it’s a new device with the new design.
As you can see in the image below, the device has an oval shaped fingerprint sensor, much like the new Moto G5 series and a front-facing flash as well, which apparently the Moto G5 series lacks. So, the phone could well be the Moto Z (2017), and it’s also concluded that the phone will have Moto G5 design itself.
Days after this leak came out, the phone’s specifications were leaked online. The Moto Z (2017) will feature top of the line hardware with fastest processor Snapdragon 835 SoC and 6 GB of RAM.
That said, Indian website Gadgets 360 has leaked this info as the publication visited the American Carrier Sprint’s booth at the MWC 2017, where the carrier showcased their new Gigabit LTE technology in a forth-coming smartphone with Snapdragon 835 SoC.
The new Motorola smartphone uses the X16 LTE connectivity which is much faster compared to the X12 used by the current generation of top of the line Snapdragon Chipsets. This ideally means the Moto Z 2017 can push the data speed limits to new heights with the SD 835 chipset.
However, the phone showcased at Sprint’s booth was completely covered with plastic around the edges, making it difficult to find what phone it is, but rumors claim that’s the Moto Z (2017). This also leads the way to Motorola breaking the Verizon exclusivity this year with the Moto Z (2017).
Last year it was a disaster as the Moto Z was limited to Verizon only, and it was launched in the US alone. Later on the smartphone was launched to other countries, like it arrived in India somewhere in September 2016. By the time Samsung S7 and S7 edge , LG G5 , Xiaomi Mi5 and several other devices have captured the market.
This year we hope that the smartphone gets a global launch and is not restricted to some US telecom operator.
All said, these are just rumors, and we suggest you take them with a pinch of salt. Do make a note that Motorola India is announcing the Moto G5 Plus in India tomorrow. We will update with all the pricing details once the phones got announced officially.
