Oppo K1 Is Superb Looking Stylish Phone With Performance Chops
Oppo has launched the new Oppo K1 today in the Indian market, and the device comes with great specs and features for an affordable price of Rs. 16,990.
It looks like a very impressive device, reserved probably for online buyers. Just go through the Specs and features, and you may also agree with my thoughts about this phone.
Oppo K1 Best Features
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 660
- In-Display Fingerprint Scanner
- Amoled Display and Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
- Hyper Boost Tech for Gaming
- 25 MP Selfie Camera
- Modern Design and Display With Water Drop Notch
Oppo K1 – Launch, Price and Availability Date
The new Oppo K1 will be available for purchase from Flipkart, from 12th February 2019. The company has launched only one variant of the device offering 4 Gb ram and 64 GB storage.
Aforementioned, you can buy it from Flipkart for Rs. 16,990.
The Oppo K1 is the cheapest phone in India that comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner and probably the first phone launched with this feature in the sub 20k price range.
Undoubtedly, Oppo is turning up the heat on rivals by offering such features at such affordable rates.
Also, it is interesting to see the brand launch a very aggressive phone online, instead of Realme launching it.
Oppo has sub-brand Realme to launch such phones, but nevertheless, the brand is itself getting aggressive online.
Also, I am sure this is not going to hit the retail market anytime soon, considering the low price and great specs.
Key Specs and Features – Oppo K1
Performance and Display
Powering the Oppo K1 is the tried and tested Snapdragon 660 Octa-Core processor with a clock speed of 1.95 GHz.
Also, there is an Adreno 660 GPU that offers excellent gaming performance.
Moreover, if you are considering this phone to play games like PUBG, Asphalt 9 or whatever is your poison, you can buy it without worries of performance lag or heating.
The Phone comes with a 6.4 Inch display with (1080×2340 pixels) FHD+ resolution and has a water notch design. The phone boasts of a 91% screen to body ratio and 430 nits of maximum brightness.
Oppo is using AMOLED display on this phone and even has the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Again, both these features are unheard in this price range and surely gives Oppo a distinct advantage over rivals.
The phone comes with impressive optics and has a Dual rear camera setup. The main camera has a 16 Megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture, and the secondary depth sensor has 2 MP lens.
The large aperture on the Oppo K1 ensures that it will be able to do decent work in low light scenarios.
At the front, the phone has a massive 25 Megapixel selfie camera, an ideal addition to attract selfie devotees.
OS and Battery
The mobile runs on the Color OS v 5.2 along with the Android Oreo 8.1.
It is a bit of a shame that Oppo is not offering Android Pie out of the box for this new device.
As far as the connectivity options are concerned the Oppo K1 comes with micro-usb port, 3.5 mm headphone jack, Dual Sim, Dual VOLTE support.
Further, there is support for WIFI, USB OTG and Bluetooth Version 5.0.
You can use face unlocking on the K1 and based on experience I can tell it pretty smooth on most Oppo phones.
Lastly, the K1 has the coveted in-display scanner similar to other phones like Oneplus 6T and Vivo V11 Pro.
Oppo has not shared if they are using a sensor as fast as we have seen on the Oneplus 6T or if it is a 1st generation sensor similar to V11 Pro.
The Oppo K1 comes with an adequate 3600 mAH capacity battery with fast charging support.
The phone is not very thick – measures 7.4 mm in thickness and weighs 156 grams.
The design is similar to the F9 Pro and thanks to the lightweight polycarbonate body it is easy to carry and use.
The dual tone mobile is available in astral blue or piano black color options.
The Oppo K1 looks impressive for the price, and have some extra ordinary features like In-display scanner, Gorilla Glass 5, AMOLED panel and SD 660.
The asking price is also not too high, and you can surely consider it if you have a budget of around 16 to 17k.
Previously Oppo has launched the A7 in the Indian market for Rs. 16,990.
Oppo A7 is Launched in India for Rs. 16,990 – Offers, Price, and Specs
Update – 26/11/2018 – Oppo has launched a new phone in the overcrowded Indian market – the Oppo A7. The new Oppo A7 has a lot in common with the Realme 2 which was launched a couple of weeks back.
It is really interesting to note all the similarities that Oppo phone has with Vivo and Realme. In fact, all the three companies are fundamentally the same with minor cosmetic differences.
Recently, Vivo launched the Y95 that comes with a similar waterdrop notch design and cameras like the new Oppo A7.
The Oppo A7 costs Rs. 16,990 and is available for purchase on Flipkart/Amazon. The A7 comes in 2 unique colors Glaze Blue and Glaring Gold.
Usually, Oppo phones also go on sale in the retail market. However, the A7 is yet to launch offline.
Key Specs and Details
Powering the devices is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-Core processor with a maximum clock speed of 1.8 GHz. Additionally, there is Adreno 506 GPU to take care of gaming needs.
The phone comes with the unique waterdrop notch design also seen on the Oppo F9 Pro and boasts of 88% screen to body ratio. The back cover is made of polycarbonate and has a glossy textured mirror finish.
There is a 6.2 Inch HD+Display (1520*720) pixels with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a tiny waterdrop notch. It is a good design and offers a great reading/multimedia experience.
The phone has 64 GB internal storage and comes with 4 GB DDR4 Ram. Further, the storage is expandable, and you can use upto 256 GB of micro-sd card. There is a dedicated memory card slot.
The Oppo A7 comes with the Android Oreo 8.1 along with the Oppo custom skin Color OS 5.2. It is the same software that we get on the way cheaper Realme smartphones.
For photography, it comes with a Dual rear camera with 13 Megapixel primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and there is a secondary 2 Megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture.
The phone has both face unlocking as well a rear fingerprint scanner to ensure quick and safe unlocking.

Lastly, the device comes with 4230 mAH capacity battery that is sufficient to last all day. Oppo is also providing a 10 Watts charger in the box for rapid charging.
Verdict – Should I Buy the Oppo A7?
Considering the Realme 2 Pro with Snapdragon 660 is available for Rs. 13,999, it is hard to recommend the Oppo A7 to anyone.
However, if you are looking to buy a mobile in the retail, with finance option, they can consider it.
New Oppo Mobiles Launched in India in 10k to 20k Price range
Update -22-June-2018 – Oppo has launched a new mobile in India, and it will go on sale starting 20th Jan 2018 (tomorrow). It comes with all the voguish features that you can expect from a modern phone in 2018.
But before we get into hardware details, notably, the Oppo A83 is going on sale on Saturday, both online as well as offline. The phone is available in black and gold color options and comes with a price tag of Rs. 13,990.
To recall, Oppo has previously launched the Oppo F5 for Rs. 19,990 in the country. The A83 is a watered down version of the of the F5 and comes at a much lower price.
Design and Display
For starters, the OPPO A83 comes with a 5.7 Inch Bezel-free display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The display has an HD+ (1440*720 pixels) resolution and comes with 2.5D curved glass.
The A83 uses Oppo’s UFO (highly curved design) philosophy that makes the A83 curvaceous. The metallic back side has a gentle curvature making it easy to hold and use, whereas the front comes with a flawless infinite display.
Measuring 7.7 mm in thickness and weighing 143 grams the Oppo A83 qualifies as a sleek phone.
Next, powering the phone is the Octa-Core Mediatek 6763T (Helio P23) with a clock speed of 2.5 GHz and comes with the ARM Mali G71 MP2 GPU with a clock speed of 770 MHz.
Furthermore, the phone has 3 GB Ram and 32 GB storage. Unlike, the Oppo F5 that comes with the same processor but more Ram and storage.
Also, the storage is expandable to 256 GB using the dedicated sim slot. It comes with 3 slots. The Color OS 3.2 and the Android Nougat 7.1 offers several customizations and features like O-Share, split-screen mode, and unobtrusive gaming experience.
Let’s talk about the bread and butter for this Oppo phone. For selfies, it does not come with an overwhelmingly large pixel size camera, instead, it has an 8 MP shooter. But it comes with its own quirks, the AI Beauty recognition technology.
Based on the large database of human faces, the camera can recognize your age, gender, skin tone and type to enhance your selfies using the magical AI powers.
What’s more, we have a 13 Megapixel rear camera that can also use AI and can click multiple shots and stitch them together to create a collosol 50 MP image. I am not sure why we need a 50 MP image, but if you do, Oppo A83 is the right phone.
Notably, both the cameras have an f/2.2 aperture, Achilles heel for low light imaging.
Firstly, the missing feature, the Oppo A83 does not come with a fingerprint scanner. However, NDTV Gadgets and some other mainstream media erroneously reported that it has a fingerprint scanner. The official Oppo website does not have any mention of the fingerprint scanner. Moreover, the promotional images squalidly conceal the back to hide this detail.
Dear venerable brands, we are not naive. At least Apple told us they don’t have a fingerprint id on the iPhone X. Anyways, our readers are smart and don’t get tricked easily.
Secondly, to compensate for the fingerprint scanner, the phone comes with the face unlocking feature. Although, not sure if it works in pitch dark.
Lastly, the battery capacity seems decent as the phone has a 3180 mAH battery that even supports fast charging.

Previously Oppo Launched the Oppo A71 in India about which you can read below.
Oppo A71 (2018) AI Powered Affordable Phone
1/Feb/2018 – Today, Oppo has launched a slightly updated version of the older Oppo A71, that they launched in Sept 2017. The smartphone is so far available in Pakistan for a price tag close to Rs. 11,800. Oppo may launch the device in India in the coming weeks. However, the company is yet to share any information.
In comparison to the older Oppo A71 that is available in India for Rs. 9,999, it offers some additional features.
For starters, it comes with Android Nougat OS 7.1 and also has the Oppo custom skin ColorOS 3.2 on top of Android to add some nifty features. The smartphone comes with a metallic surface finish and looks like the Oppo A57 or the Oppo A77. There is no change in terms of the design in comparison to the older A71.
Key Specs and Features OPPO A71 (2018)
For photography, it comes with a 13 Megapixel rear camera with PDAF, Flash, f/2.2 aperture to capture detailed images. The mobile offers a 5 Megapixel front selfie shooter with f/2.4 aperture.
It is surprising to see that Oppo has not launched this phone with a large Megapixel front selfie camera. To me, Oppo smartphones are synonymous to selfie smartphones. It is rare to find an Oppo phone which is not a selfie phone.
Furthermore, the A71 (2018) comes with AI beautification technology that applies the most suitable beauty effects to your selfies.
The Oppo A71 comes with 5.2 Inch TFT display with HD resolution (1280*720) pixels and also has a 2.5D curved glass coating. It comes with a standard 16:9 screen with large bezels, unlike the voguish bezel-less phones.
Powering the A71 (2018) is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor and the Adreno 506. Additionally, it comes with 2 GB Ram.
Notably, the older Oppo A71 uses the MediaTek 6750 Quad-Core processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz and even has got 3 GB RAM. Tragically, Oppo has reduced the Ram from 3 GB to 2 GB in the newer model.
The Oppo A71 comes with just 16 GB of storage. However, you can expand the storage using a micro-sd card support upto 128 GB. Most mobiles in this price range offer at least 32 GB internal storage space.
Fueling the phone is a 3000 mAH capacity battery. The phone is sleek and measures 7.6 mm in thickness. Also, it is not bulky and weighs just 137 grams.
There was a time when smartphone makers were making phones as thin as 5mm and as light as 110 grams, but poor battery life and consumer feedback has made them switch strategy to necessarily add more battery and give up the sleek design approach.
The Oppo A71 comes with the standard connectivity options like Bluetooth, 4G LTE, VOLTE and WIFI support. Egregiously, Oppo is not using a fingerprint scanner in this mobile. However, it may come with a face unlock feature but not confirmed by Oppo at this point.
Oppo recently launched the A83 selfie phone in India, that too lacks a fingerprint reader.
In conclusion, it’s old wine with a new bottle cap, not even a new bottle. The phone looks way too expensive for the price and even lacks a large selfie camera.
