Oppo has launched a new mobile in India and it will go on sale starting 20th Jan 2018 (tomorrow). It comes with all the voguish features that you can expect from a modern phone in 2018.
But before we get into hardware details, notably, the Oppo A83 is going on sale on Saturday, both online as well as offline. The phone is available in black and gold color options and comes with a price tag of Rs. 13,9990.
To recall, Oppo has previously launched the Oppo F5 for Rs. 19,990 in the country. The A83 is a watered down version of the of the F5 and comes at a much lower price.
Design and Display
For starters, the OPPO A83 comes with a 5.7 Inch Bezel-free display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The display has an HD+ (1440*720 pixels) resolution and comes with 2.5D curved glass.
The A83 uses Oppo’s UFO (highly curved design) philosophy that makes the A83 curvaceous. The metallic back side has a nice curvature making it easy to hold and use, whereas the front comes with an unblemished infinite display.
Measuring 7.7 mm in thickness and weighing 143 grams the Oppo A83 qualifies as a sleek phone.
Next, powering the phone is the Octa-Core Mediatek 6763T (Helio P23) with a clock speed of 2.5 GHz and comes with the ARM Mali G71 MP2 GPU with a clock speed of 770 MHz.
Furthermore, the phone has 3 GB Ram and 32 GB storage. Unlike, the Oppo F5 that comes with the same processor but more Ram and storage.
Also, the storage is expandable to 256 GB using the dedicated sim slot. It comes with 3 slots. The Color OS 3.2 and the Android Nougat 7.1 offers several customizations and features like O-Share, split screen mode, and unobtrusive gaming experience.
Let’s talk about the bread and butter for this Oppo phone. For selfies, it does not come with an overwhelmingly large pixel size camera, instead, it has an 8 MP shooter. But it comes with its own quirks, the AI Beauty recognition technology.
Based on the large database of human faces, the camera can recognize your age, gender, skin tone and type to enhance your selfies using the magical AI powers.
What’s more, we have a 13 Megapixel rear camera that can also use AI and has the ability to click multiple shots and stitch them together to create a collosol 50 MP image. I am not sure why we need a 50 MP image, but if you do, Oppo A83 is the right phone.
Notably, both the cameras have a f/2.2 aperture, Achilles heel for low light imaging.
Firstly, the missing feature, the Oppo A83 does not come with a fingerprint scanner. However, NDTV Gadgets and some other mainstream media erroneously reported that it has a fingerprint scanner. The official Oppo website does not have any mention of the fingerprint scanner. Moreover, the promotional images squalidly conceal the back to hide this detail.
Dear venerable brands, we are not naive. At least Apple told us they don’t have a fingerprint id on the iPhone X. Anyways, our readers are smart and don’t get tricked easily.
Secondly, to compensate for the fingerprint scanner, the phone comes with the face unlocking feature. Although, not sure if it works in pitch dark.
Lastly, the battery capacity seems decent as the phone has a 3180 mAH battery that even supports fast charging.
