Samsung J3 PRO Launched in India
May/2017 – Yet another phone launched by Samsung, but this time in the budget segment. And there is also something ridiculous about it. You will find that soon.
Update Jan/2019 – Samsung has launched the new M10 in the Sub 10k price range in India.
Samsung announced the Galaxy J3 Pro in India, a couple of days back and now the smartphone is listed on Paytm available for Rs. 8490.
The Samsung J3 Pro 4G is a mid-life upgrade to last year’s Samsung Galaxy J3.
To recall, the Galaxy J3 Pro was first announced in China in June 2016, and it took almost nine months for the company to bring it to India.
For selling the Galaxy J3 Pro, the South Korean giant has partnered with digital wallet and e-commerce giant, Paytm. Well, it is exclusive to Paytm, and you can’t buy it anywhere else officially. This is what Samsung said when the smartphone got launched in India last month. Now it is also available on Flipkart.
Key Specs and Features Samsung J3 PRO
For starters, the Samsung Galaxy J3 Pro comes with a 5-inch Super AMOLED HD display. Samsung India claims that the phone is ‘Made for India.’
We wonder how this counts as a phone made for India because Samsung has been selling it in China for the last eight months.
Anyways, the J3 Pro comes with features such as ‘Ultra Data Saving Mode’ for saving mobile data on your phone by limiting the background usage. Furthermore, it has support for 4G LTE, VoLTE, and comes with S-Bike mode, which is exclusive to the Indian market.
As usual with Samsung’s budget phones, the J3 Pro also misses out on most of the sensors. It is powered by a Quad-Core 1.5 GHz SoC, clubbed with just 2 GB of RAM. My Goodness, Samsung is offering full 2 GB ram instead of 1.5 GB as done previously.
Besides, the phone also comes with 16 GB of internal storage with support for microSD card slot for storage expansion.
For photography, Samsung has added an 8 MP rear camera, coupled with an LED flash. Also, it has a 5 MP front-facing camera to click selfies.
Egregiously, it comes with a 3 years old OS.
In the era of Android Nougat, the J3 Pro runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop. I told you up front; there is something ridiculous about the Samsung J3 Pro ………. Android Lollipop 5.1.
Dear Samsung, Marshmallow was okay, but don’t launch something in future with KitKat. I have doubts now…..
Furthermore, A 2600 mAh battery backs the Galaxy J3 Pro, and the phone comes with dual SIM support.
Also, connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and NFC for S-Bike mode. The Samsung J3 Pro comes in 3 color options Gold and White color.
If you don’t really care about the OS (who does not) and are happy with the brand name it could be a good choice for you. Otherwise, there are plenty of good phones in the sub 9-10K price range.
Lastly, the phone will also be available to buy on Flipkart for Rs. 7999 soon, so don’t buy from Paytm.
Samsung J3 Pro VS Samsung J3 Detailed Specs Comparison
The South Korean Giant has released the successor to the Samsung J3 called Samsung J3 PRO. As the name suggests this variant is a souped-up version; which is released in China but is likely to get launched in India too.
Furthermore, the Samsung J3 was launched in India on 1st April 2016 and is available for Rs. 8,999. You can buy it from Snapdeal.
For starters, the Samsung J series is intended for budget or mid-range buyers. It comes with a unique S-bike Mode that helps you drive uninterruptedly. Also, Samsung some days back launched the new Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 and Samsung Galaxy J7 2016.
Let’s get started with an in-depth comparison of J3 and J3 Pro.
Key Specs and Details of Samsung J3 Pro
The Samsung J3 PRO is powered by the aging Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and comes with 2 GB Of Ram. For imaging, it has an 8 MP Rear camera and there is a 5 MP front camera to click selfies.

For connectivity, Samsung is offering the essential Dual Sim Support and even has the futuristic 4G LTE.
Notably, Samsung has been losing share to the Chinese mobile manufacturers and has slipped from No. 1 position in China(2014) to the number 6.
In China Xiaomi, Apple, Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo have more market share than Samsung. Despite the flagship, Samsung S7 and S7 Edge are doing great in the high-end segment. The budget market alludes Samsung. Contrastingly, In India, Samsung still leads the pack followed by Micromax. But Xiaomi is climbing the mountain fast and will catch up with the top brands soon.
Moreover, the J3 Pro is aimed at a lower end and will be the first phone from Korean Tech giant with decent features at an affordable price tag of Rs. 10,000 ($149).
It has upgraded in most areas if we compare it to the Samsung Galaxy J3.
Samsung Plans to Win Market Share with J3 Pro
The difference is comparatively less but still, it could easily enhance the performance. As doubling the storage and increasing RAM can lead to smooth animations, consistent performance, and fewer stutters. Also, the camera is slightly better, that will delight the social sharers and enable them to click more gorgeous images.
It will be available via China Telecom but there’s no mention of the date or time. The phone will be available in Gold and Grey variant.

Recently Samsung J3 2017 leaks were shared by the tipster Evan Blass. He posted pictures of the new Samsung J3 (2017) codenamed as “SM-G5520”. Also, likely to launch on 6th January 2016 as per the recent leaks.
The render shows somewhat similar design cues, which Samsung has been following in the J series phones like the J3 2016 or the J3 Pro. The rear cover is entirely different, a rectangular strip which runs along the camera distinguishes the design from the previous iterations. The unique back cover looks cool on the new Samsung Emerge.
