Nvidia’s supreme performance graphics card GTX 1080 Ti is due and all rumors are hinting that the new graphics card can unveil at the CES 2017 (Consumer Electronic Show). This year too the show will be organised in Las Vegas, starting from January 5 to 8.
Nvidia launched the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 back in May 2016 and it will be almost 8 months for these cards to be in market. Also the Nvidia GTX Titan X will be 5 months old and will be right time to get the best value for money extreme graphics card out. Lot of Nvidia Fans who don’t want to spend $1200 or Rs. 110,000 on the Pascal Titan X will be happy to get their hands on the upcoming GTX 1080 Ti.
It is reported to have the GP102 high end Pascal series architecture. It includes a 3328 CUDA cores, with a 1.6 GHz Boost clock, 10 GB GDDR5X, 10.8 TFLOP performance. It is said to deliver the power of Titan X at a much cheaper price.
Nvidia Titan X Vs Nvidia GTX 1080Ti Vs Nvidia GTX 1080
|Graphics Card||GTX Titan X Pascal||GTX 1080 Ti||GTX 1080|
|Transistors||12 Billion||12 Billion||7.2 Billion|
|Texture Mapping Units||224||208||160|
|Memory||12 GB GDDR5X||10 GB GDDR5X||8 GB GDDR5X|
|Compute||11 TFLOPS||10.8 TFLOPS||9 TFLOPS|
The GP102 is larger when compared to GP104 and it is excepted to be 50% more powerful than the GP104. The reduce in the CUDA cores from Titian X have a small impact on the compute power of the GTX 1080Ti~10.8 TFLOPs when compared to Titan X~11 TFLOPs.
The Transistor count is also increased from the GTX 1080 from 7.2 Billion to 12 Billion which is almost 60% increase which will definitely give a performance boost over the GTX 1080. It has only 52 out of the 60Sm’s enabled i.e.8 SM’s are disabled but despite that the base and boost clock speed of the GTX1080 Ti is faster when compared to the Titan X. So we can expect the manufactures like ASUS, MSI etc. will over clock the GTX 1080Ti to outperform the stock Titan X.
AMD RX 490
With the release of the GTX 1080Ti it is excepted to compete with the AMD new Vega 10 GPU architecture cards which AMD have talked about in various forums. It is expected that AMD may launch AMDRX 490 with Vega architecture or it can be a Dual GPU with polaris architecture.
AMD card is reported to have 2nd gen HBM(High speed Bandwidth Memory) produced By Samsung with a 16 GB HBM2 with a whooping 512 GB/s memory bandwidth. Though we don’t expect AMD to launch the Vega 10 GPU at the CES 2017, or you never know they may throw us a surprise.
Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti – Import Leaks
There is another leak from the import portal Zauba suggesting an early launch of the Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti. The below image also confirms that the GTX 1080 Ti will have 10 GB VRAM and 384 Bit bus width.
We eagerly wait for the AMD Zen processors which are expected to come in early 2017 and will compete against the Intel Desktop processors.
AMD has been missing from the high end graphics card market for some time and have disappointed many fans who believed in AMD. We hope they make a strong comeback and put up a healthy battle against Nvidia and Intel in coming months.
